Karen Holder was crowned Queen at the half time of the Archer City-Throckmorton game which ended in a tie, 0-0. 10 Free to Prosper Ranch Week candidates were Queen Glenda Froman and King Tim Robinson, seniors; Sherry Schaefer and Johnny Hudson, juniors; Nancy Bussey and Paul Roberts, sophomores; and Tina Morris and Danny Coleman, freshmen. Senior class racked in a grand total of $2,057.58. The play was affarical comedy written by Sam Bate. Charles Luig and Kan- dace Bell were brought to the spot- light when they received best actor and actress. Brought to fame, also were Shirley Gensler and Jim Black when they received best supporting actress and actor. Play sponsors, who worked very hard, were Mrs. John Fall and Mrs. Jimmy Davis. David Fall was Master of Ceremonies, Richard Hill welcomed everyone, Gary Beesinger gave the response, Kerri Matthews read the prophecy, and Cyd Hornady read the will. After dancing to music by the Evergreen Highway, the banquet was a memory in the past that highlighted the spring activities. 32 33 California Trip California was the destination of the traditional senior trip of’71. They visited such points of interest as Carls- bad Caverns, Jaurez, Marineland, Disneyland, Knott’s Berry Farm, and the Wax Museum. The seniors enjoyed the Broad- way production of “CoCo” starring Katharine Hepburn, a tour of “little Mexico” and Chinatown, footprints of famous stars at Grauman’s theater, and an evening trip to see the Dodgers and Giants play. Gifts were exchanged and the roommothers from each room were in charge of the re- freshments. Each teacher was presented a gift from her students and in return the teachers presented their students with little gifts. 71 Jr. High Creates “Sounds of Music” Led by Mr. Lonnie Dooly, the junior high and fifth grade bands work hard to learn musical techniques. She has won the scholarship award all four years in high school, and was elected citizen of the year in 1969 and 1971. Because of this achievement, the band decided to surprise Mr. Dooley with a party, but in turn, they were surprised with a party from Mr. Dooley. Also this year, the ACHS stage band was reformed. 106 Spring Concert Reveals 1971 Sweetheart As a great ending for an excit- ing year, the Archer City bands pre- sented their 1971 Spring Concert. The bands cleaned, painted, and decorated the stage, and spent several weeks working on the music for the concert. The stage band, beginner band, junior high band, and high school band put on an excellent performance, and then the moment everyone had been waiting for: Kandace Bell, at- tended by Cindy Martin and Cyd Hornady, was crowned as the 1971 Band Sweetheart.
