70 WILDCAT Volume 25 Archer City High School Archer City, Texas 70 — The Year of the Lively Ones In 70 - the year of the lively ones, we were con- stantly on the go, trying to catch every facet of life. We filled an empty space in time with animation and activity. Rather than existing in a state of idleness, we lived in true involvement, combining initiative and desire to create a mood of happiness. 1970 was a per- petual rotation from our adolescence to our adulthood, ambitious, and historical. New ideas broadened our minds, and with them came innovations in fashion, rec- reation, and methods of education. And then our year, the year we had anticipated for so long, was concluded. The 1970 Wildcat is not the work of one person - it is the creation of a whole staff. We have hoped to capture many moments which will someday be cherished memories. We gave meaning and warmth to every aspect of our jubilant days at ACHS. We tasted happiness and success in 70 - the year of the lively ones. Your co-editors. For the 161 stu- dents of ACHS the demanding routine of school life was made lighter through the energy, understanding, and pa- tience of the faculty. Elementary Teachers Train Young Minds 24 We sought, we learned, we un- derstood. We also knew there was a special kind of spirit here, with all the hundreds of different personalities. All we really had in common was our youth, but that always seemed to be enough. In our CLASSES we ex- panded ourselves to many dimensions and followed different courses of study to fit our own ambitions. We experienced closeness to fellow stu- dents, helping one another to com- prehend classroom moments. In spite of our cliques and circles of friends, we were all Wildcats, and that helped to make ’70 a real year of the lively ones. 25 26 1970 Top Scholars Identified Freddy Walsh 94.70 Valedictorian Carol Groves 93.26 Salutatori an Four years of hitting the books every night, staying at the library for long hours, and striving to maintain good averages rewarded these seven graduates as they were announced “tops” in the graduating class of 1970. With it comes an end of twelve years of hard struggle for 38 seniors ... lead by Freddy Walsh ... assisted by Eddie Wright ... minutes taken by Becky Crow ... Harola Adkins kept our money. Quietly remembering hours spent together ... laughing and crying ... a year of memory with many magic moments ... the gun fight in the green coffin declaring the seniors winners of Ranch Week with $1,913 ... Our last football game as a WILDCAT ... Making over $1,000 on our senior play “Meet Me In St. Louis” ... Cheering the Wildcats as they won the East Zone in basketball ... Traveling to New York and Washington D.C. ... climbing those stairs a final time ... leaving some classmates behind, and somehow trusting them with all that was ours before. We feel again the loneli- ness of empty halls that we walked bewildered just four years ago ... taking a look at each other one last time and shedding tears of joy for all the time we’ve spent together ... finally, the Night came when we all looked back and said goodbye to ACHS ... walked off the stage into the world we will one day shape ... knowing it was the beginning not the end for the Seniors of 1970.
