Wildcat OS Arthur (iTttu i|tgh j 'duwl The Shop Building And the construction of the building goes on ... Weeks passed before much was accomplished Slowly but surely, the progress became evident Then the building began to take shape Now we are patiently wait- ing for it to be completed One of the biggest jobs was leveling for the foundation Because the facilities at A.C. H. S. were becom- ing somewhat inadequate, this new building is being constructed. It will consist of a gymnasium, a cafe- torium, a new office for the superintendent, and also a conference room for the school board. The build- ing will also be equiped with complete dressing rooms and a small stage for elementary assembly programs. It all began with a muddy mess ... ADMINISTRATION X. Bharfr nf (fimtatuut The school board plays an important role in our school. It serves as the controlling body of A.C.H. S., it exemplifies our democratic policies, and it sets the school rules. The 1967-68 school board was instrumental in obtaining our new building, along with other improvements. By providing better facilities, such as the new science and language laboratories and the library, they have helped to improve the working condi- tions for the teachers and students. Serving as the 1967-68 President was A. J. Morris, while A. O. Campbell served as Vice-President, and Jeff Seay acted as Secretary. Other members of the board were S. A. Frerich, Robert Adams, Bill Abernathy, and Joe Stults. Tim McPherson is Super- intendent of Schools. FACULTY MRS. CROWLEY, M.S. English III, IV Annual Sponsor MR. BLACKBURN, B.S. The furniture was a little late in arriv- ing, but the library as- sistants, under the direc- tion of Mrs. John Fall, performed a spectacular job of speedily putting the library in order. They also prepared, the new books for the library and kept them in order on the shelves, which made our library more convenient for the student body. Spanish (Jllub The Spanish Club had a busy year. Before Christ- mas, the group sang car- ols for the guests at the Lions' Club Banquet. At the Spanish Club picnic, in May, they chose Kim- bra O'Keefe as La Senor- ita, and John O'Donohoe was elected El Senor. At the conclusion of the year, the club decided to buy new magazine binders for the library with some of the money in the Spanish Club treasury. This year's officers were: Jerry Mc- Whorter - Pres., Danny Horany - V. P., Kimbra O'Keefe - Sec. Only once be- fore, in 1964, has such a feat been accomplished by the Wildcats. In '64 there were also only 21 players. The '64 crew also had to win the last game of the season (against Munday) to achieve the goal. Three of this year's seniors, Charley Goforth, Bob Gaines, and Mike Atchley were on the '64 State Champ team. 1967 IUtlitcat jfiuithctll easmt District 11A Champs ‘The Wildcats, 20 strong, kicked off their 1967 football season with a 33-6 shellacking of class 2A Electra. ‘Arch-rival Henrietta traveled to Berry Stadium with revenge in their eyes and strong remembrance of the Cats' victory at the dedication of their new stadium last year. Archer was never in serious trouble as they turned in perhaps their best defensive game of the year and a 19-6 victory. 'Looking more like champions every game, the Cats sent the Tigers of Temple back to Okieland with an 18-8 defeat and victory No. 3 for the Cats. ‘Notre Dame of Wichita Falls was the victim of the Wildcats' fourth straight victory by a score of 20-0. 'Lowly touted Knox City was the Cats’ first district foe and with perhaps their best game of the year, the Greyhounds gave the Cats a scare before bowing by a 13-7 margin. 'The Cats traveled to Munday in quest of district win No. 2 but they didn’t get it as they went down in defeat 21-6 to a fired up Mogul crew. 'With every game from here on out a must game in order to win district, the Cats could not afford another let-down like the previous week. You could see that desire for a district championship in their eyes as the Cats stomped the Greyhounds of Throckmorton 29-16. 'With the County Championship and perhaps the District Championship, also, on the line, the Cats edged neighboring Holliday 16-8. 'Remembering that last year at this time they were knocked out of the district race by the Paducah Dragons, the Cats found themselves faced with the same situation and with the same team. Coach Toby Wood's Wildcats never made the same mistake twice, and this was exemplified by their rout of the Dragons by a 60-6 margin. And It was Wildcats versus Wildcats. Crowell had the advantage of the home field and outweighed the Archer Wildcats as far as pound for pound goes, but the A.C. Wild- cats knew this game was for all the marbles. They had what it takes, and that speels D-E-S-I-R-E. Final score: Archer City 26, Crowell 12. BI-DISTRICT The Wildcats traveled to Jacksboro to face the Indians of Keller in their second Bi- District game in the last four years. Behind 22-0 with just a little over three min- utes left, the Cats made a valiant 14 point effort to win, but they had to beat the Indians and the clock - a task too great even for the Wildcats. The Wildcats finished the season with a fine 9-2 record. The team was composed of 5 Seniors, 2 Juniors, 10 Sophomores, and 3 Freshmen. Our managers and trainer may seem to play a small part in the athletic field of Archer City High School, but actually, they do a great deal more than we realize. Injured players are their specialty, but they help out on the sidelines as well. Even working with a team like the Wildcats doesn't make coaching an easy job. A coach must be able to inspire the team, to help each boy develop his abilities, and also to teach the value of sports- manship. Our coaches showed these abilities when they led the Wildcats to the District 11-A Championship. The team, composed of five Juniors, five Sophomores, and one Freshman, won Consolation at the Byers Invitational Tour- nament and earned the runner up Consolation award at the 23-team Duncanville tournament. Although the ball club was without a senior member, it still earned a respectable 10- 4 district record enroute to a third place finish behind league champ Knox City and second place Petrolia. Coach Fred McCown's ball club lost two heartbreakers to the kingpins by one point margins. As well as in everyone's hearts. For one of our favorites has passed away; And 'twas hard to see him depart. His personality was vivid in school On the court, dressing room, or mound. But we all were blessed by his sixteen years; A better boy couldn't be found. He always boosted the team's morale And encouraged each one of the players. He was a friend to all he knew. His family now has our prayers. He won't be forgotten for many a day, His battle won't go unwon. For Paul is the victor of his game - And ours has just begun. irTJTTjT '
