Jacksboro averaged 46 points per game through the regular season. The next game was played at Electra and the young Wildcats, behind 7-0 at halftime, roared back in the second half and defeated the Tigers 8-7. A tremendous defensive effort carried the Cats to victory. The next encounter was staged at Archer City with the Olney Cubs. Olney, champion of District 5AA, managed only one first down the first half and found themselves trailing the Wild- cats 9-6 at halftime. The cubs, with two almost equal teams, finally won over the lightweight Cats in the second half and won the contest 30-9 in one of the most thrilling games of the year. The Cats played host to Knox City before a huge Homecoming crowd and lost the game to the Greyhounds 8-6. Knox City also became a District Champion. Paducah played host to the Wildcats to open District 11A action. The fired-up Dragons completely dominated the first half, making the score 14-0 at intermission. The fighting Wild- cats came back and took charge the next two quarters and chalked up their opening district win, 15-14. The next game was with Crowell, who had not lost a game in District 11A competition since 1956. The underdog Wildcats played flawless football, both offensively and defensively, and pulled off one of the season's biggest upsets in downing Crowell 14-0. After the Crowell game, the Wildcats were surprisingly tied for the district lead with two wins and no defeats, and the next foe was undefeated and state-ranked Chillicothe. The lighter Wildcats fought the Eagles on even terms the first two quarters, trailing 8-6 at halftime. Mid- way in the third quarter, the Eagles began to pull away and won the contest 31-6. The next opponent was Munday, the eventual district champion. Giving away 18 pounds per man, the Cats stayed with the Moguls for two and one-half quarters before going down 32-6. Henrietta played host to the Wildcats in the next district game and scored a 20-12 win. The scrappy Wildcats trailed 14-0 at the half, but they came roaring back and really made a game of it before losing by eight points. Holliday, the pre-season choice to win the district title, defeated the Wildcats in the final game of the season 38-6. The experienced senior line and some speedy backs were too much for the young Wildcats, and Holliday, with sixteen lettermen on the squad, ended the season with an impressive victory. The 1962 Wildcat Varsity was composed of 3 seniors, 4 juniors, 8 sophomores, and 2 freshmen. The 1963 Wildcats will have some much-needed weight and experience, and could possibly be one of the contenders for the 11A crown. The Bobcats played a top-flight schedule and played some very fine football. Most of the year the B team played with one substitute and sometimes none, but they con- tinued to hustle, hit hard, and improve, and they should give the Wildcat varsity some help for the '63 season. These 10 boys and girls, Ross Glenn, Mary Deen, Dorothy Eustace, Judy Froman, Karen Jansen, Dianne Martin, John Crain, Ronnie Nelson, Brenda Proffitt, and Sylvara Yeager, started in the First Grade Mist. Struggling through the fog, they were joined in the Second Grade Rains by James Walsh, Ima Jean Lowack, and Francis Peck. Splashing in the Third Grade Mud Puddle, they were joined by Joe Nowell and Dickey Kirkland. Karen Barton joined them at the Fourth Grade Fishing Pond. Carol Gillem and Lisa Eckstine joined them as they took a dip in the Fifth Grade Tank. The class was joined by Jonathan Tyler as they waded in the Sixth Grade Creek. As this happy bunch of youngsters canoed across the Seventh Grade River, they were joined by no one. As the class crossed the Eighth Grade Lake into their secondary bodies of water, no one joined them. Upon entering Freshman Bay, Janie Martin joined them. Loe Nae Barbre and Roddy Oliver joined the class as they sailed across the Sophomore Sea. No one joined the already seasick group as they departed on their Junior Ocean Voyage. As the class rounded the last turn of their trip, they were joined by Carolyn Harrelson and Kerry Little in the Senior Gulf. (Somewhere around California!) SENIOR CLASS PROPHECY As we gaze into the crystal ball, the swirling mists of time clear and we can see Kerry Little. After his dad retired, he became the new administrator of the Archer County Hospital. We can see John Crain clearly now. He is hot-rodding around in his new Chevy and cutting doughnuts on the Golf Course at the Country Club. We see Lisa Eckstine still trying to get a job as a vocalist with a dance band. She always uses Misty as her theme song and after that, everyone she sings for is simply too far gone to hear her. Next we see Karen Jansen and Joe Nowell hard at work behind the door of their new business which reads, Jansen and Nowell Co-Marriage Counselors. It takes a happy couple that never argues to carry out a job like this! Strangely enough we can't seem to get a reading on Ross Glenn. The last we saw of him, he was on his way to Wichita Falls. As we gaze further into the crystal ball, we see that Archer City High School has a new Senior English teacher, Miss Carol Gillem. Dickey Kirkland is now the new Foreign Relations advisor to the President of the United States, Ronnie Nelson. Now we can see Ima Jean Lowack as partner in a chain of Bates Texaco Super Service Stations. Next we can see Janie Martin and her husband surveying a plot of fertile West Texas desert for their new farm. Coach R. A. Oliver with his team of husky little Olivers can be seen as they enter their District game while cheered on by their Mother, Dianne Martin, and her Band of Alto Saxes. The crystal ball now reveals, yes, I believe it is James Walsh. James has made quite a name for himself. He is known as THE HUMAN GUYLINE with a famous circus. The Archer County News has a new reporter. I believe it is Mary Deen. Seems Mary took over where her sister left off. Next we see Jonathan Tyler trying, but with very little success, to rent Madison Square Garden for another one of those famous Gough reunions. Carolyn Harrelson now enters the crystal ball riding in a 1961 Baby Blue Falcon. Haven't they given Brent a discount on a new Ford yet, Carolyn? Next we see those famous horse owners, Judy Froman and Frances Peck. They now have the largest horse stable in America. The Library at Archer City High School has just received a new book on bears, written by a former student, Miss Brenda Proffitt. The book is entitled Ten Easy Ways to Kill a Bear. Lou Nae Barbre and husband are now the new basketball coaches at Deweyville High. They are displaying their little Barbres as the Champs of Deweyville. As the picture slowly begins to fade we see Dorothy Eustace as the founder of the Welfare Agency in Archer. The crystal ball reveals Karen Barton very busily trying to teach her four girls to twirl a baton. Karon believes in teaching them at an early age. And last, but certainly not least, we see Sylvara Yeager as the writer of a Lonely Hearts column in the Olney Newspaper. Seems Sylvara was very well qualified for the job. SENIOR CLASS WILL I, Karen Barton, leave my great baton twirling ability to John Rutherford. I, John Crain, leave my hardy laugh and sense of good humor to Lana Smith and Darlene Cox.
