I Il 1088 Tjfjyflytf lt was September 1952 that the good shrp Archer C1ty Hrgh School stood at anchc at the wharf of a new school year lt was the same shrp that had carrred many passen gers to safe harbor rn the Land of Great Wrsdom but thrs day was a gala day LI1 rts hrs tory for some of the passengers were already aboard Shrrley Lowack Jane Perdue Phyllts Heard Bennte Lou Wrllrams Anne Douglas Guy Stephens Wayne Maxwell Morgan Powell, Janrce Smrth June Graham and Gary Wrrght And we were about to set sarl over new and untrred waters tn a quest for The Fountarn of Perfect Understandtng As the shtp stood at anchor the last passengers began to arrrve for the voyage we all realrzed was to be the most tmportant of our l1ves The last names on the regtster were Robert Krahl Don hssler and Charlene Hemmr shrpmates who had sarled as newcomers through the etghth grade crurse among the Islands of Smaller Learnrng We were enthusrastlc and asked many eager questtons about our voyage Our Cap Ialfl assured us that rf we were drlrgent and perseverrng rn our duttes we should easrly reach our desttnatron at the end of four years So rt was wrth hopeful hearts and srnrlmg faces that we bade good bye from the deck at those left behrnd rn the Grammar Grades steamed out of the harbor and embarked on our Voyage of Hrgh School Lrfe We were young and socrally mclrned so rt drd not take us long to get acquarnted w1th our fellow passengers and the Crew Our shrpwreck fears were wtped away 1n the assurance that an able staff of Seamen had us tn thetr charge and tn no ttme we were sarltng smoothly over Freshman Sea When we made port at Sophomore Bay Jtmmte Nowell Lerlant Jeter and Gwen Warn scott boarded our shrp We then settled down for a longer crulse for our next port would not be untrl we reached the Isle of Senrors where Yvonne Graham Martha Blankenshtp Beth Crawford and Johnnre Sue Alsup were awartmg our arrrval If would be tnteresung to tell the numerous delrghtful experlences of our voyage the frrendshrps we ve made the lessons we ve learned the rnnumerable partmgs of varrous shtpmates for other shores wtth the why and wherefore of tt all but rt actually has httle vrtal srgmftcance except to ourselves the few who sttll remarn together to land at Commencement Wharf We must not drvulge the secret of our slup We must not for get the loyalty to our class colors valtantly flyrng at the masthead The best and most vrtal hrstory of any person or thmg rs never grven to the world So must II be wrth the Class of 1956' But we wtll go on wrtttng new logs of greater adventures and more wonderful drs coverles for whrle the Voyage of Hrgh School l.1fe rs at an end the Voyage of Real Lrfe IS Just now at 1ts trxumphant Commencement
