Thursday, October 11th, was once again the start of Home- coming Weekend. It started with the annual snake dance and end- ed with a pep rally on the black- top. Friday was the day of the special game. The pep rally in the afternoon helped to fire every- one up as the game drew closer. Queen Darla Miller and her court were introduced during the pre- game show. The seniors were awarded the spirit trophy. The victory over the Patrick Henry Patriots was then celebrated at a dance. It was a story of a new teacher battling an old system in an inner-city school. Sylvia Barret, played by Maria Smith, helped by her new-found friend, Mrs. Bea Schachter, found her place in the system and made it a better place. Caring for the students’ and showing real interest. Sylvia gained the students’ respect and support. Under the direction of Mrs. Hickman, each per- son developed his character and portrayed them well. Once again the Bluestreak Marching Band kept up its tradition of fine marching as it helped keep the morale of the fans up at half- time. It all started in August with band camp as the freshmen learned the basic skills and the upperclassmen improved theirs. All the time and effort spent was well worth it. Also, in the fall the band had the privilege to per- form a halftime show for Adrian College. 76 marching band SYMPHONIC BAND RECEIVES The 1984 Symphonic Band I After receiving a I at District Com- petition the band traveled to Akron May 5th for State Competition. The Choir also had the honor of performing in an industrial show at Lourdes College for Sterling’s 50th anniversary. Several trips to Toledo were made and practice was the key in- gredient. The show was a great success and truly a time to remember. After a concert at Central Mennonlte Church, both choirs worked hard to put on the Follies on May 11. This extremely professional group kept busy during the 1983-84 season by perform- ing at Westgate Dinner Theatre, Sterling’s 50th Anniversary, and at the opening of Portside Mar- ketplace in Toledo, along with the usual Christ- mas shows for local businesses. The Freshman Choir, unsure of what to expect, fits right in to the choral department at AHS. They spent the first few months practicing the basic fundamentals, and it all paid off for them at their first Christmas concert at St. John’s. There was a lot of interest stimulated within the group, whereas individual solos and ensembles went to competition. The choir also took part in the Spring Concert, and performed beautifully. Mem- bers of the choir are ready to move up and face the challenge of singing in the Mixed and A Cap- pella Choirs. Close your mouths! Jan Beck At the beginning of the year the Bluestreaks weren’t even rat ed to be in the league hunt be cause of the talent they had lost, but they weren’t quitters. They knew they had to work to prove to themselves and to the public that they were winners. By the Springfield game things really started to come together. There was a magic in the air, and every game farther into their journey proved it even more. This team didn’t have those few outstand ing athletes, who could break 90 yard runs at anytime, but instead they had something much great er. They were a group of men who had the determination to win, the uncanny ability to fight, even when the chips were down, and that inner motivation to be num- ber one. PROM KEEPS JUNIORS BUSY SENIOR CLASS PREPARES FOR LIFE. 154 farewell farewell 155 156 autographs autographs 157 158 autographs we, me v ias ui iuivk uiuicc.. Now, at graduation, farewell is just not enough. We started in Kindergarten, not knowing any of our classmates, not realizing the many great times we would have with them to cherish. As we grew older, we developed friendships with our classmates: best friends one day and not speaking the next. Junior High was a big step in our lives. All our long bus rides to and from Ridgeville will always be remembered. We went from “mature” eighth- graders to scared, naive freshmen. We have had many ups and downs in our years since then. Who will ever forget the Class of '84 being the first Freshman Class to win the Homecoming Spirit Trophy and then again claiming it as Seniors? We, as a Class, drew together after Barry’s accident. We realized how much others meant to us. Now, as we part, let us carry with us the memories and all we have learned from each other Into the world. Farewell! •Mi 4 - 1 N j 2W ms® 9 ; . i .
