New decisions, goals, prosperities, dreams, and successes await them as they push through time. A big decision for sophomores is if they’d rather go to Four County or stay at Archbold High School. Buying their class rings and, of course, getting their licenses certainly proved they were ready. They are not only excited, but anxious to move on to be juniors. SUPERINTENDENT Mr. Richard Harris, who has been superinten- dent at Arcbbold for 15 years, enjoys working with students and teachers. He finds that the people of this community all have been interest- ed in a good school. Although Mr. Harris has a positive attitude about his job, he has two pet peeves: deciding whether or not to delay or can- cel school and determining what are essential purchases for school. Two of the most difficult tasks, according to Mr. Harris, are being aware of everyday prob- lems of students and teachers and getting to know everyone on a personal basis. Mr. Harris, the thrid superintendent in the 61 year history of Arcbbold Area Schools, has found his 15 year term of service to be short. He leaves our school, feeling sad and glad, and wishing the best to bis successor. PRINCIPAL Mr. Gene L. Rupp 42 Administration C. SHORT AND MORE FACULTY J. STEVENS M. WALKER E. North Central, Napo- leon, and Newark gave the Streaks tough matches, but they were unsuccessful in the battle of the court. With the regular season behind them, the girls advanced to tourna- ment. Conquering Stryker, Edon, Ayers- ville, and North Central, the team captured the District Championship. At Regionals, the Streaks defeated St. Henry and Tiffin Calvert, giving them the opportunity to ap- pear at the State Championships. At State, the Streaks faced last years champions, Newark, for their first match. It was a hard fought battle, but the Streaks came up on top, setting up the championship match with Loudenville. Beating Loudenville, the Streaks were named STATE CHAMPIONS. VOLLEYBALL Dawn sets up another point Front row: Mary Buebrer, Betty Rychener, Kim Bosco, Julie Bernath, Dawn Britenriker. As an added extra this year, five courageous young men took time out to help the girls cheer. With the use of the mini tramp, the guys and gals entertained the crowd with toe touches and flips. The favorite cheer, “Why Did the Chicken Cross the Road?”, also was a way to get the crowd fired up. Besides cheer- ing, the girls kept busy making mon- ey by having a garage sale and sell- ing hats. The locker signs, spirit flags, and the Homecoming meal were all provided through the cour- tesy of the cheerleaders. Back Row: A. Grime, A. Stuckey, E. Quillet. Row Two: M. Lantz, A. Trejo. Crossgrove, J. Short Highlighting the sidelines at this year’s basketball games were Arch- bold’s Varsity, Reserve, and Freshman cheerleaders. The gals led the fans in cheers to boast the roundballers’ mor- al. Besides cheering, the cheerleaders did a lot of hard work behind the scenes. Activities such as bake sales, selling hats and spirit pins, helped the girls make money. The Varsity cheer- leaders used their money to buy colle- giate outfits, something new for Arch- bold. Money making projects were only a small fraction of things the gals did. Other projects included locker signs, a cheerleading clinic, hall signs, and making hoops. All in all, the year was a success and the girls should be commended for a job well done. The highlights of the year were beat- ing Kalida and shooting down the mighty Fayette Eagles! The Streaks, after beat- ing Fayette, went on to knock off Mont- pelier and Tinora on the tourney trail. Then the Streaks ended their season with an exciting game with the Holgate Tigers. First Team NWOAL honors went to Brad Rupp, along with First Team All- I District Seven. Through the hot, sweltering days of that last week in August, the band marched on. Through the mosquito-ridden and rainy Thursday nights, the band marched on. Through the chilly and frosty Friday night football games, the band marched on. Under the direction of Philip Hoverman, assisted by Marlyn Krueger and David McDonel, and under the Held command of senior Matt Buehrer, the band performed a variety of songs. Some of the favorites in- cluded: “Dallas,” “In the Mood,” “Fame,” “On Broadway”, “Chatanooga Choo Choo,” and many more. Special segments of the halftime shows were the percussion fea- tues which included: “Thank God I’m a Country Boy,” William Tell Overture,” and “I’m Popeye the Sailor Man.” It takes pride and a willingness to work, to be an accomplished member. Each year the band strives to conquer a new goal and to improve themselves in some way. Some will have a summer break and go to college, while others will take on jobs right away. We would like to wish everyone good luck and farewell!
