What courses will I take and in which semester? Do I want to devote more time to my friends or to my studies? Will I buy a class ring? Will I stay at this school next year or do I go to Four- County? Watch out, upperclassmen. The freshmen are on the loose, fighting through crowded halls, trying to find their classes and bumping into kids as they try to read their schedules at the same time. The phobia of walk- ing into the wrong classes is present for a few week, but the fear soon leaves. As the year progresses, each boy and girl becomes more of an individual person instead of “just another freshman.” Too many seamstresses spoil the seam. Goertz, Heidi Gonzalas, Gloria Frosh. The zany, 23-member group, commonly called The Company, was very active during the past year. Sing- ing for Christmas parties, clubs, and schools, this organization traveled quite a bit and performed for many different people. They have appeared on “Time Out for Teens” and will be singing at the Miss Ohio Pageant held in June. Directed by Mr. McDonel, the Company sang Grease, Saturday Night Fever, and Carpenters medleys, along with other popular music. the company 55 FOLLIES All together now. This I’ll give your Tevye. Mr. Hover- man added a new twist to band practice by holding a week long band camp in August. Band Camp helped students to perfect new dance steps and to get in shape. The Pep Band brought life and thrill to the basketball games again. The Pep Band had all the fans on their feet dancing and clapping to the loud music. Mr. Hoverman also joined in the fun by playing the trum- pet along with other students. Thank-you, bands, for such great entertainment! The Homecoming was really some- thing special as the band marched the field in plastic coats, the players wallowed in the mud, and under the lights the fans and cheerleaders yelled for a victory that was not to be found. The play is about two boys, Wilbur and Hercules, who go to see Hercules’ uncle, only to find that he is a mortician and that there is a “guest” in the house. If you’re looking for Bob, she’s in the suitcase! Claire is astonished by a better view of Bubba! Jamie, do you know you have a hangnail? The gym was decorated into several rooms of a castle. A li- brary, dining room and a dungeon were included in the rooms. The delicious meal included roast pork, beef stroganoff and a va- riety of breads and cheeses. After the feast, couples danced to the melodies provided by “Music for Sale.” Some other late activities were a movie entitled FM, and then either a fast dance which featured “SWADE” or bowling at the Archbold Lanes. 70 prom The modern Scarlet O’Haras. While the juniors and seniors at AHS are struggling to decide what to do after graduating, those at Four County have already started training for their occupation. Forty-seven juniors and seniors attend Four County to find a vocation in which they arc interested. The courses that they take give them the opportunity to do on-the-job training. Twenty-two different schools from Fulton, Henry, Defiance, and William Counties make up Four County. Attending Four County gives a student the opportunity to meet many people and to take various courses that are not offered at Archbold High. Practice makes perfect. Steve Wyse Row 2: Dale Nafziger, John Zimmerman, David Rupp, Jr. SUPERINTENDENT Mr. Harris is responsible for a wide area of school management, ranging from transportation for the whole district to maintenance for all the buildings. One of the most difficult jobs for Mr. Harris is to make a decision early in the morning about school. Should he delay or cancel school, or should we go all day? Mr. Harris would love to have new facilities for the teachers and the students so they can further their education in a more modern way. One thing Mr. Harris really appreciates is the backing that people give the school. He is proud of Archbold Area Schools and of the people who support the district in numberous ways. Richard L. Harris 122 administration PRINCIPAL Mr. Rupp is a very busy man. Everyday he has to make sure everything is running well and that all teachers are here and in their classrooms by 8:30. One job that many people don’t realize he does is coun- seling students and parents. Many times his personal time at home is interrupted by parents or students calling him about a problem. One thing Mr. Rupp would love to change about our school is to have no more discipline problems. He also would like to see everybody being fair to each other and showing more love and concern to other people. A funny experience that happened to him this year occurred when he went into the gym to watch the girls’ physical educa- tion class and walked into a coat rack. He cut his head and had to go to the doctor for stitches. Mr. Rupp was quoted as saying, “I’m very proud of the students and faculty at Archbold High School. When 1 visit an- other school, I realize how fortunate we are. We have a great bunch of kids.” SECRETARIES Row I: Joyce Britenriker Row 2: Martha Schantz, Mary Ann Rupp, Shirley Kopke administration 123 Beck, Wendell Math Cornett, Jeff Social Studies Degler, Bill Business Did you notice this year how our march- ing band was exciting and fun to watch? From the disco dancing songs to the patri- otic tunes, there was a fancy step done by each person. Those new steps on the field this year came from our new band direc- tor, Philip Hoverman. Mr. Hoverman come to us from B.G., where he was finishing his master’s degree. While he was there, he was under a gra- duate assistantship where he taught classes during the day and took classes at night. Before he went back to work on his mas- ter’s, he had taught band at Antwerp, Ohio, for two years. Here at Archbold Mr. Hoverman feels the students have talent and aren’t afraid to use it. One of the goals he hopes to see in each band member is that each one becomes better on his instrument.
