The bell which rests in front of the elementary building reminds onlookers of the old school is located in front of the elementary building. This bell used to be in the bell tower of the old school building. During their noon hour, some of the older boys would go up to the bell tower and play cards. The teachers often had a problem getting the boys to come down from the tower for classes. The coming of the Lake Shore and Michigan Southern Railroad through Archbold was a big boost to the town’s growth. As in all small towns in America during the early days, the railroad was the lifeline of Archbold. Around 1900 the depot caught fire.
