Senior Class History In the year of 1947 forty-four little children entered Grade School for the first time. Mrs. Walter was the teacher The students were: Charlene Nafziger, Arlene Sauder, Sharon Greiser, Merle Beck, Dean Rupp, Rollin Nafziger, Cloyce Nofziger, Nola Nofziger, Louona Gisel, Sandra Maust, Doris Miller, Ray Trejo, Kenny Graber, Jeanette Wyse, Mary Gerken, Patsy Gisel, Stanley Ruffer, Michael Wyse, Joyce Rychener, Juliene Crossgrove, Merle Greisa, Ronny Leupp, Frank Winzeler, Edwin Ripke, David Rupp, linda H-odbeck, Ronnie Barton, Tommy Greiser, Mike Sullivan, Sandra Schang, Leola Baer, Pauline Kellicut, Peter Short, Jerry Dominique, Tom Yoder, Paul Lovejoy, Sharon Lind- ley, Connie Starnm, Patty Rufenacht, Joan Lisak, Nedra Kauffman, Kay Ann Cassell, Delbert Bri1sch, and Jean Eager. At the start of the first grade there were three new students in class. They were: Carol Erbskorn, Byrdalene Wyse, and Sharon Aschliman. There were several who moved. They were Nedra Kauffman, Mary Gerken, Jean Eager. Sharon Greiser was killed in a bobsled-train accident. The teachers of these groups were Mrs. Agnes Whitcomb and Mrs. Mildred Bernath. In the second grade there was one new pupil by the name of Alfred Dohm who moved in from Elmira. Those who left were Ronny Leupp and Edwin Ripke. Our teacher was Mis. Bessie Frey. In the third grade the new students were Bonnie Haas and Judy Nafziger. Mr. Parlette taught his pupils how to play the flutophones. Mrs. Mary Zimmerman and Mrs. Treva Miller guided us through that year. Our next step, grade four, found us with one less student, Joyce Rychener. Miss Mabel Nofziger and Mrs. Dorothy Spengler led these groups over the rough way. lt was at the beginning of this year that we had classes first in the new elementary building. Everything was bright, shiny and new. When we reached grade five, we had two new students: Gary Baus and Ronnie Wyse, but we were minus fom' old ones: Merle Greiser, Kenneth Graber, Kay Cassell and Pauline Kellicut. To lead our little flock, Mrs. Burk- holder and Mis Maxine Frey did a fine job. By this time we had reached the sixth grade. We were really big, as we were the oldest members of the ele- mentary building. Mr. Jack Robison and Mr. Kenneth Rychener took us in hand and taught us the sixth grade material. Marvin Miller joined this elite group, but we lost one student that year. Connie Stamm who was on a Sunday School class picnic at Coldwater Lake accidentally drowned. The next year found these big sixth graders toned down to little, meek, shy seventh graders entering the high school. They seemed lost and out of place among all the high school students. During this year this class seemed to stand still as they gained no one and lost no one. The eighth grade found them a little acclimated to the high school. Three new ones were added to the class roll: Bill Short, Janice Hausch, and Donovan Vorthman. Arlene Sauder left, the group. ln September of 1955, fifty-nine green freshmen entered the ranks of Archbold High School. Twenty new stu- dents were added to the group. They were: Sara Zaerr, leotus Amstutz, Jerry Clingaman, Lyle Fruchey, Judy Huf- fman, Nedra Kauffman, Roger Miller, James Nicolen, Elaine Nofziger, Joyce Nofziger, Shirley Riegsecker, Gene Roth, Lu Ann Roth, Roger Roth, Shirley Rupp, Derald Seiler, Marjorie Schanu, Donelda Sauder, Richard Waldfogel, Shirley Weber, and Byron Wyse. Because of the previous classes' misdemeanor this group did not need to go through the usual freshmen initiation. This was the year when the building was enlarged and the freshmen had a big territory to roam around in. The greenness soon wore off and by 1956 we had entered the sophomore class. During this year we chose our class rings to be delivered when we were juniors. Two members decided to leave the QOHP. Ray Trejo quit school to wcrk and Leola Baer quit school to get married. She was the first out of this class to enter the matrimonial Staten The next year was the big year for the group of studenis. A new member, Jerry I-luHman, came to be with us. This class took on the big task of entertaining the seniors. What frm we had planning that Garden of Friendship , the theme of our junior-senior banquet. The Dutch garden with its windmill and tulips, the Japanese garden with its pagoda, the Mexican garden with its pleasent place for a siesta, and the American garden with all its beauty and comfort will always be remembered. Two plays were presented, Tattletale , and Path Across the Hill to help boon the treasmy. Football and basketball programs were made and handed out at each game. To climax the year, the group enjoyed a picnic at Pokagon Park in Indiana on the shores of Lake James. Ralph Van Slyke left in finish his junior year at West Unity. Bonnie Haas left the class to get married aroimd Christmas time, and Janice Hausch was married during the summer between the junior and senior year. The final class was reached at last, for the fall of 1958 found us back in school as seniors. We were busy this year for there were many things to do. Two plays were presented, We1come Home and The Little Shepherd of Kingdom Come . Both were inely produced. Shirley Weber left the class at Chrisunas time and was married. They were entertained graciously by the juniors in the Teahouse of Cherry Blossom Time , a beautifully decorated Japanese eating place. The senior trip taken from May 9 to May 15, to Washington and New York by train and boat was very enjoyable and exciting. All the members of the class seemed like one big family. It was hard to come back to school after this, but we had one week left. Then came the two big events of our school career. Baccalaureate, on Sunday, May 24, came first with Rev. Kramp of St. Martin's Lutheran Church giving the sermon. On Tuesday, May 26, Dr. Dawson, President of Adrian College, delivered the Commencement address. The fifty-eight remaining seniors marched up to receive their diplomas from Dr. Neal, President of the Board of Edu- cation. Their goal had been attained and now they recieved the reward of their twelve' years of study and endeavor. Following this the seniors walked ouf of the halls of Archbold High School, their student days Enished, to join the ranks of alumni of Archbold High School.
