Victories came easy in the following two contests as Rummel easily handled Warren Easton and St. Paul's to push their slate to 4-l. Inconsistency plagued the Raiders once again as they traveled to Baton Rouge and were thoroughly thrashed, 71 -54. lAfter revenging their earlier loss to E.J., the Raiders 'entered the Lake Charles Tournament where they lwon the first contest over Kaplan, 66-51. The iff is it If I I l following day Rummel lost to the eventual champions W. O. Boston, 75-60, which eliminated them from further competition. The Raiders came home and iinmediately began one of their few winning streaks. After defeating Bonnabel soundly for the second time, the Raiders began competition in the C.Y.O. Tournament. With an opening round victory over Cohen the Raiders went on to defeat Chalmette and St. Augustine to earn a spot in the finals against Holy Cross. Following a hard fought battle the Raiders left the floor with the second place trophy, losing 66-58. It was evident the Raiders werle looking ahead to district competition as they dropped their last pre- district contest to Redemptorist of Baton Rouge to finish IO-5. , OPPOSITE PAGE TOP: Paul Vitrana evades his defender for a shot. T The slates were cleaned as the race for the district crown began on December 26 with De La Salle. The Raiders gave Coach Robarts a great Christmas Gift as they went on to defeat De La Salle, 60-49. Apparently the Raiders concentrated a bit too much on the Cavaliers for it took a last second shot by Billy Schaefer to defeat Jesuit 33-31, and put the Raiders at 2-0 in district. Holy Cross was next for the Raiders but the inconsistency struck once again as Rummel collected their first district loss, 72-54. St. Augustine furthered the Raiders' miseries by defeating them, 54-48. The last three games were must games for Rummel, however, the Raiders came through on only two, defeating Shaw, 66-56, and Chalmette, 76-63. The Raiders lost a heartbreaker to Brother Martin, 57-55, on a last second shot. With a 4-3 record the Raiders had to look to the future. The future was the second round and it started off like the first with a victory over De La Salle, 53-52. This was followed by crushing losses to Jesuit, 40-39 and Holy Cross, 61-54, which put the Raiders' chances in ieopardy. ln ci must win situation, the Raiders went on to defeat St. Augustine, 51-48, Shaw, 61-41, Chalmette, 59-49, and then finished the regular season revenging their first round loss to Brother Martin, 49-37.
