Only 82 more turns to go! Bill Ryan and Rossana Reale exchange turns on their new rings. Promises Memories On March 15. 1982. we. the class of 1983. received our class rings. The mass was celebrated by Fr. McKeaney and our guest celebrant. Fr. Tribuani. On the front of the altar, a banner was hung, which read ' PROMISES AND MEMORIES surrounded by pictures and pamphlets of events which we were involved in together during our years at Kennedy. After mass, parents and students gathered in the cafeteria, and we had a little social where the class had a chance to congratulate one another. Of course, everybody had to have their rings turned eighty-three times, and the next mor- ning we found out that our rings didn't fit and our fingers were swollen! Fr McKeaney and Fr Tribuani bestow a blessing upon the juniors. 39 Spirit Week dk Sister Rosemarie really got into the spirit of Spirit Week! Beth Bonner gets a lift from a couple of friends. Seniors call it Freshmen Week . but its of- ficial title is Spirit Week . Whether or not they admit it. everyone (including the fresh- men! enjoys Spirit Week. This is the one chance seniors have to tease the freshmen, though the real purpose is to initiate the freshmen into our school and make them feel welcome in the Kennedy community. 40 Maria Sinopoli and her escort Robert Moore, are driven atop a convertible on the way to the game. Linda Krepto and Ron Heiler stroll down the sidelines amidst the cheers of Kennedyites As usual, under Sister Judith's guidance, pep club and student council ran Spirit Week smoothly. Friday is the most fun-filled day of the week, when the Pep Rally takes place in Tracy Hall, after eighth period. All four classes assemble and try to outshout one another and cheer our athletic teams on to victories. Maureen Maguire smirks as the photographer catches her Hey! Maria Sinopoli. and Maureen Maguire. The girls were escorted by Mark Roman. Paul Marinelli. Ron Heiler. Rob Moore, and Jim Dugan. Some of our favorite football players came together to have a good time. The Homecoming Queen. Debbie Slawek and her escort Mark Roman share quiet moments as they dance together 42 Members of the freshmen class look like they enjoyed their first Homecoming Dance. The court gets out on the floor to start the evening of fun with a slow number Wow man. this is pretty good. Now if we only had some music! |oe and Meg gives each other their last loving embrace. Damn Yankees Over a period of five days, adding up to a total of six per- formances. Kennedy's drama club produced the musical Dawn Yankees. Preparation for this play began weeks before the first day of school in September. Many performers spent long, hot summer days and nights rehearsing their scenes, and building the set. With the so-called patience and hard work of director, Tom Large, and cooperation from the entire cast, (which is one of the largest in number ever), the show came together quite well. The audience and everyone in- volved with the production expressed a good feeling about the play and how successful it became. Congratulations everyone!!! Sandy Weycbert played the part of a nosy fan who is determined to know all The boys from the locker room meet up with their favorite reporter! Look! Up in the sky! December I st. Tracy Hall was tran- sformed into a court of law. Here. Kennedy students had the privilege to witness the naturalization of over 100 new citizens. For the majority of Kennedyites. this was the first time to witness such an event. Tracy Hall was packed with students, immigrants, and court officers. Once the judge. The Honorable Anita Brody, walked in. si- lence fell over the court. Proceedings went smoothly, and afterward the Daughters of the American Revolution, with the help of the NHS. served refreshments for the new Americans. Although the D|s records skipped and the trellis for the professional pictures fell over, the gang made the best of it. Under the guidance of Sister Rosemarie, the prom committee made sure that everyone's evening was a celebration. All the hard work that was put in was paid off by the sight of the girls' gowns and the guys' tuxes (a definite switch from our uniforms!). Christmas, Easter, and other times throughout the year. Celebrants include Father |im McKeaney, Father Ladislaus Ryczek. and Father Tom Heron. Members of the faculty have been appointed as extraordinary ministers, and aid in the distribution of Holy Communion. Ms. Carole Chernecky and Mr. Pete Marino direct the choir. Every day. morning mass is said in the chapel, and communion can also be received before each lunch period. Priests from feeder parishes help hear con- fessions every month. Once a year, during spring, religious retreats are held for the students, where they engage in workshops which involve discussion, group activity, and films. The Kennedy choir has recently received an influx of members. Students practice singing each Monday during long homeroom. Our choir is fundamental in livening up the spirit of our liturgies. 58 At the end of the liturgy. Joseph Saraiva Tony Venezia, and Brian Tinneny On Ash Wednesday Father Heron along with other ministers, lead the procession distributed ashes to the Kennedy community during Mass. This is one of the rare times that students aren't making noise in Tracy Hall!! Every liturgy which we celebrate together is hosted by one of the four classes Here, junior Lisa McKeough reads from the podium. 59 Pep Club The Pep Club puts spirit into Kennedy with events such as the Pep Rally and Spirit Week. Twice a year, members rise early and make our beloved teachers their version of a gourmet breakfast. 'Kencensus Staff ’82-’83 The 1983 Kencensus began with an enthusiastic staff, bubbling with creative ideas to formulate the theme and decide the format for Definitions of Kennedy Life. Hardworking staff members, under the guidance of Sister loan Gertrude and senior editors Margaret Curcio and Lisa Muir worked toward pressing deadlines—even when layouts and copy were late or incomplete. Seriously, these people work hard to help keep Kennedy in order. They spend time typing, filing, running, and classifying all those things the rest of us either forget, or lose! Lingering Like a child begging for a few More Minutes Before Bedtime. 129 —Unknown— The Class of '83 GRADUATION That 104th Commencement, that time of farewells and beginnings took place on |une 10, 1983 at the Immaculate Heart of Mary Church in Roxborough. If someone had told us how short-lived the moment was going to be. we might have taken things more slowly, but our class was not to be stopped. After exams were over, books keys were turned in and our caps gowns were finally received, we began to realize that it really was almost over Our practices were short and hot but we finally learned to march to Pomp and Circumstance's'’ heavy beat. The time was right and it was worth all the studying, laughing, working, teaching, preaching, and joking around that was put into preparing for it. Bishop Louis DeSimone was the celebrant and the newly or- dained Father William Grogan Imore affectionately known to the Class of '83 as Mr. Bill ) delivered his homily with a very personal touch. He spoke of the many things that have changed for us but how the love has remained and motivated us for the past four years. After many flowers, hugs, tears, kisses, pictures, promises and farewells, a total sense of achievement was felt by the Archbishop Kennedy High School Class of 1983. (top left!
