(right) Algebra can be a difficult subject to learn—and to teach. Mr. Shaum gives it his best shot in Kennedy. (below) English classes take students from British literature to American Nobel prize authors to short stories. Miss Ciociola is working on basic grammar with her freshman class. Art can be enjoyable, but it also can launch a student into a career. By the time an art student reaches his senior year, the emphasis switches from having fun to preparing a portfolio—not to imply that the two can't be done at one time. Beowulf may be considered dreadful in some circles, but this English class seems to be having fun. (bottom right) 26

Why is Mr. Kaufmann smiling? Because he loves geometry. Why aren't there any students in this picture? Because they weren't smiling. (middle) Kennedy produces many fine artists each year. Here, John Zaremski and Dennis Hartshaw work towards that goal. (left) Maria Tadeo, Dennis Hartshaw, and Keith Champagne are each absorbed in their own works in a studio art class. The Art Department at Kennedy includes far more than pencil sketchings. It includes painting, ink drawing, pastels, and mechanical drawing. 25

Counseling is the job of rather Ryczek (left). Performing the job counselee is Kevin Minnick. Counseling service is open to all students who seek it. The halls (middle left) of Archbishop Kennedy between classes are infamous for their confusion and traffic jams—and suspicious looking characters. The library is always a good place to study in Kennedy (below). It is never noisy and just about all the books you might need are there at your disposal. Dave Kelly takes advantage of the quiet of the library to read the newspaper. The lunchroom is a place we tend to overlook, but that is where we spend the most time in direct contact with our friends—during lunch or after school. It may not be Maxim's de Paris, but it's all we've got. 27
