Assistant Superintendent of Schools The Reverend DAVID E. WALLS, PH.D. Assistant Superintendent of Schools DEDICATION The step from a comfort- able security as Math teacher to an uncertain novelty as high school Principal is undoubtedly a jarring and difficult one. Nevertheless, Father Herron’s stride was unfaltering and courageous as he dauntlessly accepted the task appointed to him. Faced with a challenge which would heap additional responsibilities and worries upon his shoulders, he braced himself for the major adjustment. Throughout the year Father was a figure of dedication to Kennedy and its members. With the students’ interests at heart, Father endeavored to maintain the status of Archbishop Kennedy High School. A new spring schedule and extra senior privileges ranked among his accomplishments. As a salute to Father Herron's courage, perseverance and patience, the KENCENSUS staff dedicates this edition of the yearbook to a fine PRINCIPAL, ADMINISTRATOR, FRIEND, and TEACHER. 8 REV. Weekly reception of the Sacra- ment is a common sight at Kennedy. Group discussion sessions highlight the retreat. Kennedyites find that retreat is a time for questioning, listening, and understanding. ▼ A refreshing Moment! Mr. Rocconi! Mr. Rocconi! Mr. Rocconi! 29 Can you blame youth for asking What Is ► true? Each May another Junior Class proudly steps through the doors of Tracy Hall for the climax of their past three years at Kennedy. From the moment this blue ring slips upon a finger it binds the wearer to a type of pride, pride in himself. Silently speaking for the person, this ring says “Look! I made it! I can iden- tify with a certain place. I belong!!” Then, as time passes, day by day, the student realizes that this ring binds him to certain principles, ideals, responsibilities and goals. Even after a class has left the halls of Ken- nedy to explore the world, still the ring binds. For now it binds the graduate to a memory—a memory of four years of work, fun, tears, laughter, hope and courage —a memory of growth. 77 SILVER BELLS It looks like R. Schimpf reveals through her speech the Graduates' feelings of wishes. GRATITUDE. THE WHITE HOUSE WASH I NGTON TO THE 1970 GRADUATING CLASS ARCHBISHOP KENNEDY HIGH SCHOOL It is traditional on commencement day to congratulate the senior class and to address all of the graduates in terms of what the future holds for them. I am breaking that tra- dition, and instead of congratulating and addressing the class as a whole, I would prefer to direct my thoughts to each of you individually, through this letter. If I had the opportunity to greet each of you individually, this is what I would say: Congratulations — on being who you are, a unigue human being capable of making a special contribution to our nation and the world. Congratulations on being fortunate enough to have parents and teachers and administrators who care deeply about you. I don't have to tell you what the future holds for you. You know that life has responsibilities as well as rewards, failures as well as successes, tragedies as well as joys. You know that our nation offers splendid opportunity — and faces grave problems. On your commencement day, then, the important question is what you hold for the future. I am confident that your special and irreplaceable qualities of mind and heart and spirit will contribute to the building of a strong, free and just nation and a peaceful world. As you go forward you take with you my best wishes and highest hopes. SENIOR DIRECTORY ROBERT J. BAER Si. Philip Neri ACADEMIC Football IV. Intramurals III. IV. Prom Committee III, IV.
