Disguised as the Arcadia Valley Marching Tigers, they began the school year with many dynamic performances in parades and field shows. As a final achievement during marching season, they captured the first place trophy in the class 3A marching competition in the Christmas parade at Rolla. With the beginning of their successful concert season, several members achieved personal recognition in All-District Band, All-Conference Band, and at the District and State Music Contests. The band received a rating of 2 at District Contest. As Mr. Shell would say — Young people, you’ve got a fine band. The 1984-85 school year saw the addition of a totally new concept to the high school Pep Club — Fun Kats. Under the direction of Tom Dettmer, Tom Komar, and Kenny King, the Pep Club reached new heights in school spirit. The renewed interest in cheering Our Boys on led to an awesome turnout at the conference tournament, where the sunglassed Fun Kats and their disciples cheered the Tigers on to second place.
