Student The AVHS Student Council is designed to provide an opportunity for students to experience leadership. The members that are elected soon find out that there is a lot of hard work involved. The Student Council spon- sors the Bloodmobile twice a year and encourages students to participate as donors. They also sponsor the Homecoming dance, Regional Tournament ads, and several other projects. This year some members attended the District Student Council Convention where they participated in group discussions and picked up many new ideas. A few members also attended the State Student Council Convention in Waynesville and brought back many suggestions on how to make the council more organized and efficient. Also, this year a PAC was formed. This committee had weekly meetings with the principal and discussed various subjects. It is felt that these meetings were very successful. The purpose of the Future Business Leaders of America organization is to provide, as an integral part of the instructional program, additional opportunities for secondary students in business and office education programs to participate in career education training, to gain economic competency, and to develop civic and per- sonal responsibility. The Arcadia Valley High School FBLA has par- ticipated in fund raising drives and have contributed funds and energies to the March of Dimes, the national FBLA project. This year and for the past several years, FBLA has given an annual Christmas party for children in the local Head Start. This is always a successful project. English. THIS IS NOT THE END. IT IS NOT EVEN THE BEGINNING OF THE END. IT IS RATHER THE END OF THE BEGINNING. —Winston Churchill Diana Strange was named Salutatorian and Gleena Miller was Valedictorian of the 1976 Bicentennial Class of Arcadia Valley High School. 67 As we, the class of 1976 prepare to leave Arcadia Valley High School for the last time, it is with a deep sense of sadness that we approach graduation. For twelve years we have been one unit, undivided, and now we will become many units as we are divided and each goes his separate way. There are many things which we wish we had done and also many which we wish we had not done. But be that as it may, life goes on. There is a poem which seems appropriate for us, The Seniors of 1976, which was written by Jean B. Smith and appeared in TEEN magazine. It is as follows: The Spirit of ’76 Black and Gold, our colors waving Emblem of the true, In the Valley proudly standing, High School here’s to you. Make way for us; here we come. We’re the future—America’s young. Don’t criticize or mock our youth; Just like you, we search for truth. Hypocrisies won’t get us down; We will strike where these abound. There’s much to do; we’re needed here, To help preserve what men hold dear. We’ll work with others hand-in-hand, To try to help our fellow man. In this land our fathers made, We stand together unafraid. Give us room; let us by. The youth of America have arrived. There’s nothing wrong that we can’t fix; We’re the Spirit of ’761 So with our newly won independence we will sing for the last time, Arcadia Valley Let your portals Always open be. Through the years All praise and glory We will give to thee. Memories of the years we spent here, Vivid till the end Hoping always to remember, And our goals defend. And leave forever the days of our youth behind and move on to new worlds to conquer; but we will forever carry in our hearts the memories of the days at Arcadia Valley High School. 68 Sports Boy’s Golf Team Varsity-Bruce Lorenz, Randy Yancey, Rick Hood, Mark Archambault, Mr. Kirchner.
