the reality of an area vocational technical school which can benefit or and the entire community possibly more than any other phase of our school progressive accomplishment such as we have seen in the arcadia valley is indeed due the cooperative efforts of a democratic society. principal congratulations, again, to the students, teachers, and parents of the arcadia valley school district for the excellent record compiled by our students this year. to our graduating seniors--thanks so much for your very fine cooperation and good luck to you whatever your endeavor may be. to those students returning next year continue your hard work and make 1972 - 1973 the greatest year ever for arcadia val- ley high school. mr. jaraes d. chandler a administrative assistant we are closing die first full school year in our new building, this marks for some the beginning of a new way of life and for others another step in their education, towhich ever group each student belongs we hope they realize that their school days provide the training ground for an acceptableTway of life in american democracy. all of us realize that the days of the little red school house where the three r's were taught are gone forever. also gone__ are the days when we as educators can use yesterday's tools to solve today's problems, as educators we need to always have an open mind and a listening ear because solutions to these problems can come from young people as well as adults, for this reason we need to be careful to never under-estimate the potential of our young people, our school has many such young people for whom we are grateful. mr. d. harwell lambert it is to these young people of arcadia valley that i want to ex- press my deepest appreciation and hope for the future. mrs. amy beth lambert school secretary office personnel mrs. mildred degonia bookkeeper and secretary to superintendent mrs. be tty thorn school secretary arcadia valley r-2 school board mrs. framers of the declaration of in- dependence stated in the preamble that we hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness. for all the years since that time this has been the guiding principle for all true-hearted americans. recently our american democracy has been reeling from numerous attacks which according to some are threatening all demo- cratic principles, we have seen and experienc- ed race riots, bombings, assassinations of acknowledged leaders of our land, and found ourselves involved in a war which is in itself one of the most controversial issues to arise in many years. because we believe in america and its demo- cratic ideals, we the annual staff felt that a fitting theme for our yearbook would be one of a patriotic nature, this is not to say that people should not have the right to protest or assemble or march against things they consider to be wrong, this too is a part of america, but on the other hand let us not impose our views on others because they might not agree with us. a current song contains the following lyrics: the road is long with many a winding turn, it leads us to who knows where, but i'm strong, strong enough to carry on. he ain’t heavy, he’s my brother. ... bobby russell any road that we travel down is long and is laden with heavy burdens, but if we believe in the founding principles of our country, we can carry on and can be a brother to all mankind, remember -- he who carries a candle of joy will light the path for a brother and furnish the spark to start the flame of hope in the heart of another. ... josephine millard
