Text from Pages 1 - 108 of the 1970 volume:

DEDICATION Tireless energy and unending willingness to serve Are admirable traits for anyone to have. The 1970 TIGER is dedicated to such a person. Without Mr. Jim Finley’s support and encouragement many students, organiza- tions, and activities would not be able to accomplish their goals. Mr. Finley is there, whether it be to spon- sor a club, attend a dance, supervise float building, or putting an annual together. We thank you for being there Mr. Finley, and dedicate the 1970 TIGER to you. TABLE OF ’’Old Times There Arc Ne're Forgotten” This was a year of nostalgia for all the students at Arcadia Valley. For the seniors it was a time to say farewell to all the things that make up the school year at A.V. . . . friends, teachers, carnival, volley- ball and basketball games, dances, homecoming, prom, and finally graduation. For underclassmen it meant exchanging the old outdated buildings of A.V. for a brand spanking new school. It is with no sadness that we leave the present A.V. building but we cannot leave without a tear or a thought in out hearts for the wonderful times all A.V. students . . . both past and present . . . have experienced here in these now hallowed halls. But the future waits for no man and so with bright hopes for the future and all it holds, we bid a fond farewell to our present Alma Mater in this TIGER of 1970 and through its pages we hope that ”01d Times There Are Ne'er Forgot- ten. 6 When you wake up in the morning, Pooh, said Piglet at last, what's the first thing you say to yourself? What’s for breakfast? said Pooh. What do YOU say, Piglet? I say I wonder what’s going to happen exciting TODAY? said piglet. Pooh nodded thoughtfully It's the same thing, he said. . . . WINNIE-THE-POOH These happy smiling first graders were escorts for the carnival queen candidates, A little sweep here, A little sweep there. Keeps the shop teacher out of my hair.” 10 Another 25 t pack of gum! Miss Smith, when I want your opinion of the correct spelling of ‘apricot’ I'll ask for it. I don't know how Reinagel got this job he can't even spell his own name, right, Rj el. I can hardly wait until that girl in that itsy bitsy teeny weeny yellow polka-dot bikini pops out! From 8:35 'till the last bell rings, You'll always find Reinagel doing his thing! At one time Julia would have died for wearing slacks to school but not since the lifting of the rule because of the cold weather. Another Van Gogh in the making?? 12 Eat the right foods, get plenty of rest, Like -- ! ! I wish him luck!! exercise, and when you grow up, you may 14 be just like Fred! I've heard of blind dates but this is ridiculous. A sign of the times The sextet sings at the F.H.A. Christmas Dance. The theme of the dance was Candy-Cane Lane. I've told you a thousand times Joe--No, No, No. I don't We're going to have to stop meeting like this--or my want an ice cream soda! ! wife will find out!! Even Tiger Tatum had a good time at the dance. Choraliers sing at the Christmas program. If I Had a Hammer. Good material for a bonfire. Just one time I'd like to do something besides cut and paste. Look at all the BROWNIES! Would you tell me, please, which way I ought to go from here? That depends a good deal on where you want to get to, said the cat. I don't much care where . . said Alice. Then it doesn't matter which way you go, said the cat. ... so long as I get SOMEWHERE, Alice added as an explanation. Oh, you're sure to do that, said the cat, if you only walk long enough. . . . PRINCIPAL NINETEEN-SEVENTY GRADUATES AND UNDERCLASSMEN: As we prepare to move into your new high school this fall we are aware of the memories these old buildings hold for you. Being prin- cipal for the past four years has given me an insight into the value placed on our schools. Without the support and efforts of students, faculty, alumni, board of education, and other members of the Com- munity--this move into new quarters would not have been possible. So on behalf of all concerned we express our gratitude to those who worked to bring about this move. f s J. D. Maguffee Principal SUPERINTENDENT TO THE YOUNG PEOPLE OF ARCADIA VALLEY HIGH: As you journey through life, face the world and society in such a manner as to prove that you are God's greatest creation, by ever portraying the intrinsic traits of love, tolerance, patience, integrity, and humility. Take advantage of today, because soon tomorrow will become today and today will swiftly glide into yesterday, and by following these concepts, God grant that you be the answer, not the problem. + Mr. Homer Bridges Superintendent 64 OFFICE PERSONNEL Amy Lambert School Secretary Mildred DeGonia Bookkeeper and Secretary to Superintendent. Friends and Faculty: Changes, changes, changes! You found them in the 1970 TIGER, didn't you? These changes were for the better 1 think, and could not have come about with- out the dedicated efforts of the TIGER Staff, and of course, Mr. Jim Finley. Many thanks to them for all of their hard work! Treasure your yearbook; it holds many memories. And remember it was the first to have color! Pam Leach Editor Student Body and Faculty: Another year has come and gone at old AVHS. There were many changes in the annual this year. With the help of Mr. Finley and the new high school as the backdrop, the 1971 annual should con- tain even more changes. Joe Manning Co-Editor THE LAST WORD To the TIGER Staff: Since everyone else said friends and faculty, I thought I would give praise where praise is due. No student who has not been a member of the staff can appreciate the tremendous amount of work that goes into the production of a yearbook. To think up new ways to say the same old thing, and to keep with- in the small budget is a terrifically hard thing to do. I think as you see and look at your 1970 TIGER, you will find that the loyal members of the TIGER Staff have done just that. Jim Finley Sponsor 100
