William Hope. President.......................................Eugene Duree Vice-President..................................Walter Sellers Secretary-Treasurer Jack McWherter It is pleasant to be back in Arcadia Valley with such fine people. It follows that such people have fine children. They must have command over personal resources, all of which require physical, mental, and spiritual discipline. Those who succeed must be trained to stand on their own two feet, but they need advice and encouragement along the way. We hope to keep our goals high and with continued co-operation may we obtain the ultimate in education. Our ’’best wishes” to the students of 60-,61. The school annual has become a very important reference for me. It is a source of much pleasure for me from time to time. Once again I feel very proud to have served as Principal of the High School. Nearly all of my associations with the faculty and students have been very pleasant this year. We were active in basketball, pep squad, chorus, band, volleyball, and baseball. The carnival, which was the biggest event during all four years of attendance, was well re- presented by our class. Our candidates were: Sue Stringer, Freshman year; Paula Thurman, Sopho- more year; and Flora Jones for our Junior year. August 29, 1960 found sixty new Seniors returning to Arcadia Valley High School. The class really proved itself in the magazines sales, making a profit of 830.35. As Seniors, Jo Anne Poinsett represented our class very well at carnival time. Although we came in fourth in both cicket sales and queen contest, we ran away with the float contest by taking first. Our theme was ’’Japanese Paradise.” Our Senior Play, ’’Curtain Call for Clifford,” was a high school comedy in three acts, and was enjoyed by all. Then there was the lovely prom ’’Wonderland by Night,” given us by the Juniors in which the decorations, refreshments, and orchestra were immensely enjoyed. So as we leave our Alma Mater, we carry with us many memories of the past years, and we are grateful for all that has been done for us. 14 ELIZABETH JANE ANDERSON MICHAEL DENT BART LOW Mixed Chorus, 3,4; Bovs’ Glee Club 3,4; Singers Four Quartet 4; Band 3,4; Dance Band 3; Concert Choir 4. This delightful Comedy was ably presented to a very appreciative audience. The plot centered upon Rockwood High and the attempts of Miss Troutliver, played by Darlene Jones, to direct their Senior Play, The Ghost of Blackborn Manor, by Bela Logosi. The Seniors es- pecially thank Miss Graves the able director of this play. A Gift for the Teach. Yea Biff 30 Living Dangerously dfauUitvUk$ t961 ( o-rtunenccMent £%e%cc c Processional . . Class spirit mounted in October when Miss Joyce Inman was chosen as queen candidate. Our class won carnival tickets sales for a second time, but, our beautiful float, Maid-N-Holland” received second place. We also ended up in second place in the carnival. Work days, the annual basketball tournament concessions, the selectionof class rings, the class skating party, and other class business maintained interest throughout the winter. The Junior-Senior Prom, on April 29, climaxed the social events of the school year. With memories of another milestone, the eager Juniors of September have become the exuberant Seniors of May. Many changes had been made, new color schemes, new teachers, and most of all a new name for our High School. All of the students seemed in high spirits. In October the Sophomores and Juniors sponsored an all-school party which was centered around political parties. The gym was decorated in red, white, and blue streamers going in all directions. Everyone attending enjoyed themselves completely. We were fortunate in having two queens from the Sophomore class reigning over A.V.H.S. during this school year. They were Paula Cook, Carnival Queen, and Pam Harland, Valentine Queen. 37 Roy Anderson Arland Barton Gloria Asher Patrick Baldwin Sue Baldwin Charlotte Barnes Mickey Boles Rae Diane James Black Berryman Ronnie Black Langdon Blanton Wayne Barton Henry Browers Eddie Brown Stoney Camden Charles Brooks Frank Browers Karen Boner Robert Chapman Dorothy Charlton Brenda Chronister William Chronister Dallas Cloin Paula Cook Janet Crocker Joyce Crocker Robert Crocker Elaine DeVore Carol Dinhobl Alma Douglas 38 Tommy Edwards Lynnette Erdman Douglas Fahland Carolyn Frazier Carol Green Brian Gross Margaret Harding Pamela Harland Mary Ann Huff Melba Inman Fount Inman Lucille Inman Elaine Jackson Carl Jones Steven Jones Russell Kelly Barbara Lashley Denny Lashle Ginger Lashley Carol Lewis James Mitchell Paula Nees Rosemary Lumpkins Edward Moses Nick Marvin David Metcalf William Pinkley Carol Prier Judy Queen Sue Randolph Richard Phillips Elsie O'Bryan Donald Reed Karen Reves Don Rothlisberger Jean Ruble Walter Russell Sandra Ruth Alice Schmitz Patricia Stroup Fred Sutton Jim Sutton Randall Thomas Mary Trask Janet Tripp Joyce Tripp Ruthie Thurman James Turner Nancy Tyndall Barbara Wadlow 40 James Whited Eddie Wilson Johnnie Wilson Rosalie Wren Robert Yates Paula Grimes Carole Skellenger 41 42 Eighty-one Freshmen entered Arcadia Valley High School on August 29, 1960, determined to make their first year of high school an outstanding one. When carnival time came the Freshman boys elected Nancy Allmon their queen candidate. We came in third in the float contest with ’’Emerald Isle,” third in the queen contest, and second in ticket sales. Freshmen were active in band, the choruses, volleyball, volleyball and basketball cheer- leading, basketball, baseball, pep squad, F.H.A., F.F.A., bowling leagues, and the Tiger staff. On April 3, many Freshmen went on the class skating party. On November 5, Patsy Stark was crowned Barnwarming Queen at the annual F.F.A. Barn- warming. Ruthie Smith and Shellana Inman were her attendants. March 11, there was an all-school dance sponsored by the Freshman and Senior classes, which was thoroughly enioved by everyone.
