Here we have a record of all yearly school events as well as pictures of our classmates. These are records that grow priceless as time goes by. In my collection of sixteen issues of The Tiger, I am sure I'll find many oc- casions to examine them in the future for facts that might otherwise slip my memory. I am glad to have had a small part to play in the development of this important project. MR. H. E. GRAYUM Superintendent nistmtion My first year as principal of Ironton High School has been a pleasant one for me. I realize this would have been impossible without the splendid cooperation of the faculty and students. Seniors The first year as Freshmen we entered high school as a very scared group of students. Every class has their quarrels and disputes and we have been no exception. We feel that we have done well in our years of high school with one first, two seconds, and one third in ticket sales; two firsts, one second, and one third in floats; two queens, and two seconds in the queen race. We have been the first to do many things; first to top the magazine sales, first to win all three races in the carnival, and first to go on the Senior trip to Washington, D.C. and New York. We are all p. u ' to have been students of Ironton High School. Farewell. Mr. Lamb, played by Ken Larkin, may be a tycoon in the business world but he's just a sheep to his family. He doesn't want Mrs. Lamb, played by Loretta Wilkerson, to spend all her time giving money to charities or Cousin Jane, played by Jeanette Burney, to spend thousands of dollars exhibiting the crazy pictures she paints. He wants son, Dick, and daughter, Helene, played by Gale Cox and Pearl Statler, to settle down, stop driving automobiles so recklessly, going to parties, and getting into fights. He decides his Lambs have got to stop living on cream and go on a diet of skimmed milk for their own good! Mr. Lamb gives his personal secretary, Bennings, played by Jere Callisto, a contract to take complete charge of the family, household, and money for six months. He'll take away the cream! Friends of Helene's and Dick's, Greta Lawrence and Clyde Becker, played by Joan DeGonia and Jon Fahland, decide to free the family by getting rid of Bennings. Helene gets herself engaged to John Gibbs, a rich playboy friend of Dick's, played by Dave Thorn, and Sarah Lattimore, played by Joyce Knight, comes to Mrs. Lamb's rescue with a loan at an embarrassing moment. The plot backfires in an amazing way and Bennings true identity is discovered. But not before the Lamb family has been taught a much-needed lesson in a whirlwind of fun and action. Through it ail, Rose, the maid, played by Velma Barton, calmly takes orders from anyone who might seem to be in charge. 30 I J umiord The third year of high school began for 78 Juniors on August 31, 1959. We quickly began to join many various activities. Juniors were to be found on the volleyball, basketball, and baseball teams; in band, Choraleers, Girls' Glee Club, Boys' Glee Club, pep club, F.H.A., F.F.A., Tiger Staff, Tiger Talks Staff. Many Juniors were called upon to play at several parties, outside activities, and talent shows during the year. We are especially proud of the very capable student body president this year, Dave Layton. This is the first time in the history of our school that a Junior has served in this capacity. At carnival time, Flora Jones was our charming queen candidate. Our float, Carnival Days placed second in the float contest. We also placed second in the ticket and queen contests. Our Junior play, Man Overboard was a big success and enjoyed by everyone. On April 5, approximately thirty-five Juniors went on a class skating party. The Sophomores and Juniors sponsored an all-school Sock Hop on April 9. Each quarter, many of our members were on the honor roll, honorable mention and perfect attendance honor roll. Mrs. Scott, Miss Graves, Miss Miller, Mr. Penturf, and Mr. Edwards, our capable sponsors, helped us make our Junior year a big success. We are confident that our Senior year will be the best of all. 31 Betty Anderson Jane Anderson Barbara Bridwell Harold Brooks John Camden Helen Duree Roy Frazier Lola Chambers Steve Freegard Mike Bartlow Harold Childers Frank Green Ronald Barton Nathan Boyd A Wilma Browers Taylor Burney Linda Chronister Betty Jo Erickson Allen Harding Mike Harland 32 Mary Carol Jones Sandra Liggett r - - 4 Charles Poores Jackie Lashley Bill Marvin i A Peggy O'Bryan Sharon Pruitt Jerry Inman Coeta Queen Melvin McCallum Roger Phillips Louise Rice Flora Jones Robert Lesh n Myron McWhorter Jo Anne Poinsett Dale Robbs 33 Bill Ruloff Walter Spitzmiller Paula Thurman Charles Warren dflk—. The Junior play was presented on May 6, by the Junior Class. The large cast included Miss Hannah Blair, portrayed by Lola Chambers, who was the chaperone of Katsy Prew, Flossie Nelson, Dotty Alien, and Melanie Leroy, played by Janet Thomas, June Lashley, Barbara Bridwell, and Betty Jo Erickson, respectively. Mr. Henry Van Cleve, the important messenger was portrayed by John Burney, and his detective, Herbert Hooley was played by Roger Thomas. Members of the crew were Louis Hodges as Captain O'Shea, Mike Harland and John Harmon as Tim and Slim, and Walter Spitzmiller as Butch, the cabin boy. Three college boys, Dick Moore, Bill Trent, and Joe Nash were played by John Layton, Jim Edgar, and Steve Fregard. Other passengers were Louise Carson, played by Paula Thruman, Alena Dusenberry, played by Sandra Duree, and Maria Cruikshank, who was played by Peggy O'Bryan. Myron McWherter played George Lawrance, Roger Phillips portrayed Albert Maxey, a hypochondriac from the South, and Jerry Wilkerson played Honey-Boy Brown, an eager cereal salesman. Bill Marvin served as stage hand and Carol Jones and Peggy O'Bryan were prompters. The play took place on the oceanliner, Columbia, on its passage to Europe. The action began as Mr. Van Cleve endeavored to outwit anyone trying to keep someone from stealing the important papers he was carrying. Meanwhile the three girls and the college boys tried to outwit the chaperone. Arlene Dusenberry pursued George Lawrance, and when he became interested in Louise Carson, Arlene chased any man on board. Albert Maxey added to the hilarity as he wobbled across the deck on his bicycle. Honey-Boy Brown annoyed the passengers with his free samples of Crunchy Munchy Crispies. The plot was completed when it was dis- covered that Herbert Hooley was really the spy who intended to get the papers. The college boys gained the favor of Miss Hannah when they helped to capture Hooley. The play was enjoyed by all and was a big success. 33 BACK ROW: Richard Grayum, Student Council; Bill Barber, Treasurer; Lynn Hitchings, Reporter; DeLania Symonds, Vice-President; Jay Callisto, President. The class was well represented in various sports and organizations such as A” and B team volleyball and basketball, cheerleading, F.F.A., F.H.A., Tiger Staff, and musical groups. At carnival time, Bertha Barber was elected our queen candidate. With the aid of our sponsors, Mrs. Lewis, Mr. Palmer, Mr. Wright, and Mr. Bryson, our float Gateway to Fairyland received third place. On April 25, 1960 the class went on their annual skating party, which proved an enjoyable climax to a wonderful year. 36 Rita Anderson Wayne Anderson Nancy Arnold Katherine Blanton Lloydinia Byrd X I Harland Barton Lorene Bowles Jay Callisto Tony Barton Phyllis Brush Richard Campbell Mary Coleman Jim Baldwin Roscoe Benton Carol Buckey John Childers Neal Davis John Baldwin Pam Berkley Jerry Bullis t Doyle Childers Dale Dennison 37 Donald Dinkins Donald Duncan Dale Duncan Doug Fahland Larry Giles Richard Grayum Lynn Hltchlngs Pat Johnson n Bill Green r David Hurt Charles Harer Joyce Inman Margaret Inman Henry Hartwick i 1 Carolyn Inman Jim Klaus Ronald LaPlant % Tim LaPlante o n Charles Lashley Danny Lashley James Layton Alvin Lewis 38 Rodger Liggett George McCall David Metcalf Robert Miles Robert Payne Agnes Poinsett Carol Prler Ed Reichert Charles Rice Elizabeth Ricketts Allen Hothll8t erger Leroy Rothllsberger Betty Spltzmlller Janice Stricklin Pat Stroup Buddy Stlrts BUI Symonds 39 k J ; .M Frank Wallis Delanla Thomas Robert Trask Tom Winkeler Stanley Wren Martha Young BACK ROW: Lynnette Erdman, Secretary; Alice Schmidt, President. JresLmen The Freshman Class started out in September with a large number of 96 and retained that number just about all year. We worked very hard all year in all of our activities. In spite of our hard work we placed fourth in everything at the carnival, the ticket sales, the float contest, and the queen contest. Our very worthy queen candidate was Miss Lynnett Erdman and our float was named A Birthday Party.” We had several workdays this year and they were all very successful. The freshmen enjoyed two skating parties this year. Both were a lot of fun. We adopted a plan set forth by the student council to start separate student accounts in our Sophomore year. These were to be for our senior trip. We feel that we have accomplished much as a class this year. We are very proud that one of the members of our class, Miss Lynnett Erdman was chosen Barnwarming Queen of F.F.A. We are very thankful that we had such wonderful sponsors for our first year. They were Miss Conrad, Mr. Robertson, Mr. Bader, and Mr. Noland. 4 1 Roy Anderson Diana Berryman Henry Browers Brenda Chronlster Gloria Asher Pat Baldwin Sue Baldwin Charlotte Barnes Arnold Benton r. We have been very successful with our activities this year. Hay ride, Barnwarming, F.F.A. and F.H.A. Square dance, All-School Square dance, Scrap Iron Drive, Mazagine Sales, Skating Party, Papa Picnic, anda Field Trip to Purina Mills Research Farm. During F.F.A. Week we had a display in the window of the Arkansas-Missouri Power Company. We have bought three road signs to display on the three main highways entering Ironton. Our chapter was very active in the Iron County Fair by displaying their projects. During Sub-District Contest at Lutesville our Parliamentary Procedure Team and Public Speaker did not place, but our Secretary's Book, Treasurer's Book and Reporter's Scrap Book all went to Cape Girardeau. We had the teams as follows to go: Farm Mechanics, Field Crops, Dairy Products, Dairy Production, Soils, Animal Husbandry, Poultry and Meats. Dairy Products and Poultry were the only teams that qualified to go to State Contests but two of our books also went. They were the Secretary's Book and the Reporter's Scrap Book. Ironton Chapter will have three State Farmers this year. They are Dale Adams, Charles Henson, Arthur Stark. Only 2% of all F.F.A. members in State of Missouri are able to receive this honor each year. 2), unce SECOND ROW: M. Bartlow, J. Thomas, S. Hodges, S. Freegard, B. Marvin, R. Phillips, J. Hardy, J.
