I. H. S. National Honor Society A chapter of National Honor Society has been organized this year for students of Ironton High School. This is a national or- ganization sponsored by the National Association of Secondary- School Principals. There are now more than five thousand chap- ters in schools throughout the United States. Each chapter is organized with four main objectives in view. The first aim is to create enthusiasm for scholarship. The next is to stimulate a desire to render service. The third purpose of each chapter is to promote worthy leadership. The final objective of the National Honor Society is to encourage the development of character in pupils. Thus, in order to become a member of the organization, a student must have these four qualifications: schol- arship, service, leadership, and character. Members of the organization must be in the Junior or Senior class. A member must have maintained a grade average of “S in his academic work throughout his high school years. From the students who have maintained this scholastic average, the faculty of Ironton High School will choose those students who also fulfill the other three requirements of service, leadership, and character. This year, there have been six students from the Junior and Senior classes selected for membership in the National Honor Society. The members from the Junior class are Nellie Pollock, Curtis Leach, and Ann Talmage. From the Senior class, Faithie Guelzow, Jean Marie Foster, and Audrey Webb were chosen for this honor. This is an organization in which a student may well be proud of his membership. When a student is proud of something, he will thereby create the interest of others in that thing. If every- one's interest in the National Honor Society is stimulated, we shall have a desire to reach those final objectives for which a school is constantly working--scholarship, service, leadership, and character.
