Junior Class History The prospering Sophomore Class of 1949-50 came gaily back on September 8th, looking forward with eager anticipation to the excitement awaiting them in their Junior year. Now that the school year is over, the class can look back with pride at their achievements as Juniors. The class officers elected at the second class meeting were: President...............................John Smith Vice-President......................Faith Guelzow Secretary...........................Wanda Depew Treasurer...........................Ann Whelehon Student Council........................Betty Owens Bruce Haig The boys of the class chose the very popuiar Miss Carolyn Koenig as their queen candidate for the l.H.S. Carnival. The entire class worked industriously, and they were rewarded for their work by winning first place on ticket sales and on their float. The theme of the float was ‘'Carousel '. The main feature of it was their queen candidate, dressed as a little girl in a white pinafore, seated on a red and white merry-go-round horse, eating a huge red and white lollipop. It was a truly beautiful float. On October 31, 1950, the class saw their queen candidate, Miss Koenig, crowned as the Oueen of l.H.S. for 1950-51. Representing the class in volleyball were Nelda Jones and Ruth Reed on the B team, with Faithie Guelzow as captain, and on the A team Patsy Cloin, Delores Sitze, and Mary Lou Strever, who was captain. Robert Griffe, John Smith, James Trolinger, and Bruce Haig represented the class in basketball. Junior members in the band were Carolyn Koenig, Johnny Collins, and Patsy Eidson. During the Ironton Invitational Basketball Tournament the Juniors were in charge of the food stand. They took in $627.06 with a profit of $204.02. The class was highly successful in their other fund raising project, a bake sale. Yes, the Junior Class of 1950-51 has had a very successful year. 24
