After spending a week learning about the history of the Park, and studying its plant and animal life, the students received 25 credits. This club was headed by president Karen Doble and advisor Mr. Bartlett. On the same trail as the Yosemite institute was the Arcadia High Backpacking Club. This organization, which was run by president Mark Shmagin and advisor Mr. Brown, allowed students to go backpacking in and around local mountains, and even to places such as Mammoth Lakes and the Sierra Nevadas. They went on many trips a year, usually for a weekend, and the club's members had or rented their own gear. , ' 3. 1 fxA'Q,' 5 I H-,up X v- aft L 3?-'J JA - Members of Yosemite Institute Club quit cross coun- try skiing to sit down and eat a quiet lunch.
