Varsity Basketball This year our Cinderella team surprised many of our P. L. neighbors by winning nine out of eighteen games. With a team comprised of sophomores and juniors we finished 7th out of ten teams in the team offense section with 46.0 points per game. Our sharp defensive skills put us in 3rd place, allowing opponents only 45 .3 points per game. As you remember, most of the games were cliff hangers and heart stoppers. Aragon was fortunate to have the all league performances of Brice Pearson who scored 238 points for a 14.0 point per game average. For this he was honored with a berth on the ALL-PL 2nd team. Mark jorgenson who showed smart and aggressive playing on the court scored 187 points with an 11.7 game average. Filling out the starting lineup were Rick Teitgen with a 7.3 game average, Barry Secrest with a 5 .3 game average, and Rich Wirgler with a 7.3 game average. A fine late-season performance was turned in by Lance Block. This season showed that next year's team is heading for the top, and with the school's backing it is bound to go all out for Aragon. To add another glory to our season, coach Ed Diaz was selected by the Peninsula Sportswriters as the coach of the year for 1962. Bn Team Though not enjoying the most successful of seasons, the B basketballers did give the league's top teams some tough competition. When a need arose on the Varsity, the team was forced to give up its two top rebounders, and thereby gave up essential height. The B's coached by Mr. Henry Warner, did garner two wins over Terra Nova. C Team The C's team had the misfortune of losing numerous contests in the last few minutes of play. They ended up with a 6-7 season, which is not representative of their skill and ability. After losing 3 early games, they fought back hard for five wins against San Mateo, Terra Nova, Camino Real, Bulingame, and Mills. The big gun for the C's was Charlie Howard, who scored 126 points for a 9.6 game average. Randy Keafer and Gary Fracchia posted 6.8 and 5 .4 averages respectively. Filling out the starting five were Stan Bingham and Bob Somerby. With only a few returning players from the C's, the hopes for next year lie with the experienced D squad, who will be playing C's. D Team Aragon can be proud of this first season in D's competition. The team developed well throughout the season and showed seven wins against six losses. Coaches Ed Diaz and Norm Rupp praised the performances of Red O'Neil as one of the leagues top scorers with 100 points for a 7. 8 average. Scrappy play maker, Bob Marcucci's average of 4. 8 does not show his importance to the team, as he lead the team to numerous victories. The starting lineup con- sisted of Red O'Neil and john Delange as forwards, Dennis Casagrande and Bob Marcucci as guards, and Steve Bingham at the center position. With the returning of lettermen Bob Marcucci and Dennis Casagrande plus Wes Chun and jim Norris next year, an eventful season can be expected.
