Typing, and Intermediate Algebra became renowned warriors against our pioneers. Cicero and Pitman proved more trying and stubborn than had been anticipated, but with memories of past victories and dreams of what lay ahead our Forty-Niners valiantly marched on. At this time, in commemoration of the three-quarters of the journey successfully completed, and in inauguration of the last climb fRegentsj, a junior Hop was held. All gladly accepted the invitation to the happiest event of the season. For that one evening all worries were forgotten, not however sufhciently to avoid a dedication to our Lady and a prayer of intercession for the safe and happy conclusion of their journey. Already, as the light of the promising goal rose upon the horizon, our pioneers began to look back at their past prairie experiences with a feeling of satisfaction. Their fight, thus far, had been difficult, it is true, and despite the proximity of their journey's end, this chapter of their lives had united every participant into one close harmonious family. As their goal was becoming visible upon the horizon villainous Macbeth also made his entrance, in the company of History and S.P. Could anything equal that barbarous Chemistry? The candle was burned at both ends in a desperate attempt to meet its demands. The end was approaching in those last months which wit- nessed basketball, orchestra practice and glee club activities. With graduation within eye scope, the word PROM came to be the pride and joy of every young lass. Graduation made its dramatic entrance. It found the Forty-Niners reminiscing with not a little melancholia and regret. Remember the Freshman Retreat, the Holy Name Rally of Sophomore year, the St. Patrick's day Parades, the thrill of Intra- Murals, the spring boat-rides and the operettas? Yes, they all remembered, how could they forget? This golden pool of memories had become part of them. At graduation, a single thought occurred to each of the parting family: You have reached your goal. By God's Providence you have opened with the key of knowledge the treasure-chest of opportunity. Thank the Dear Lord for His goodness and consecrate your life to a worthy cause that one day, you, Forty-Niners, may be once again united, never more to part. 53 XYZ! TE
