Today, the cause of the Allies seems bright and hopeful. Our forces, on the brink of invasion, stand poised for the thrust which will crush the Axis superiority of world domination. With victory in our possession, it is necessary to pause and wonder about the post war period. Perhaps the greatest lesson we learned from World War I is that it is possible to win the war and lose the peace. Can we within the span of a few short years stand the shock of another World War? Our minds and hearts instantly shrink at such a possibility. Yes, it is necessary to pray and work for the peace that surpasses all understanding. This is the critical challenge of the present hour. The students at Aquinas are serious. They want it to be proclaimed that their brothers and fathers are not fighting for the principle that might should prevail over rightg they are not fighting to preserve inter- national cartelsg they are not fighting to preserve foreign empires. They want it to be known that the ordinary soldier in the United States armed forces is fighting for a world order planned by Almighty God, an order founded on unchangeable moral law which is voiced in human conscience, proclaiming the dignity of the human person-namely, that the state exists for the peopleg that religion alone can give life an eternal meaning. In short, the students at Aquinas are convinced that we are fighting for our glorious Christian culture. ' The students at Aquinas are idealistic. They have the faith and the vision to see that such a world order is practical and possible. They have been taught, with the help of God and good will on the part of men, such a grand order can be built and will endure. Peace through Justice is the foundation and the beginning of God's order. This peace can gradu- ally come about if human beings will seriously try to recognize and over- come the insidious forces of evil. A Peace through Justice will come if our leaders and people will learn to triumph over hate, to triumph over the distressing principle that mere utility is the basis of law and to 1 . triumph over the cold sp rlt of selfishness PEACE THRQUQH ff ff, 'A'!
