The Apponequet Administration Throughout our four years at Appone- quet there has been one man standing right beside us. When we were freshmen, he was the quiet vice-principal who ap- peared at every school function. Then sophomore year he became our principal taking on more responsibility yet still hav- ing time to listen. As our senior year was on its way to success, another shift in command took place when he became the Acting Superintendent of Schools. Still, he was always there. He went with us to our football and Softball games, to our proms and banquets. He was there the first day of school through the last. He was there to lend a helping hand even though conflicts might have arisen. He always tried to see both sides of an issue forgetting personalities and opinions. He became an example of hard work and dedication not only to us but to all. As we leave the halls of Apponequet, we are sorry that all students everywhere have not had the chance to meet such a man as Joseph Simas. Joseph C. In the small area of Massachu- setts that makes up East Free- town, Lakeville, and Assonet, there have always been many ac- tive and devoted citizens eager to better the education of its youth. A handful of these people make up the Freetown-Lakeville Re- gional School Committee. We re- alize that we are a lucky group of students to have a school com- mittee that can understand the daily problems of school life and be concerned with student goals, opinions, and capabilities. With- out these open-minded indivi- duals, our school would not have many assets: academic pro- grams, athletics, field trips, and special school activities. If it were not for the enthusiasm and approval of the School Commit- tee, our days would be dull and routine and not filled with variety and purpose. Too many times this Committee has been denied its moment of glory . For this reason the Class of 1980 would like to extend its thanks to all of these people for contributing so much to our well-being. 23
