Here at Apponequet, we have all been exposed to books, everything from An Introduction to Electronics to Let ' s Drive Right, from The Prince to Lord of the Flies. From them, up until now, we have gotten a quantity of knowledge along with laughter and some pain. The Polar ion staff is proud to present to the Class of 1966 a gift of joy from books — Homer the Intelligent Bookworm. Remember that Homer is no ordinary bookworm; he is just as educated from books as we are; therefore, we feel that he has an equal right to share the Polar ion with you. He will show you a few highlights of our senior year, with a few backward glances at years gone by. Homer and the staff hope you enjoy his Polarion tour as much as we have enjoyed arranging it for you. We hope your enjoyment increases with the years, as you continue to feel the spirit of the occasions that fill your book. 3

The important business of the public school system is that of helping to train youth, in partner- ship with home and church, for full and respon- sible citizenship. The twelve year program has many different features in it, — scholarship, meeting re- quirements and taking responsibility, planning for future education or skilled employment, learning to work cooperatively, sharing for the common good, recognizing the rights of others, pleasure, contribut- ing to the happiness of others and friendship, to name a few. The life of each person has been touched and influenced to some degree. In a short time each of you will be taking up adult responsibilities; some among you have already done so. Time passes very quickly. It is our earnest hope that you will have matured and grown in your ability to think con- structively during these early years of education so that you may, in turn, contribute effectively to the common good. In the years ahead, everyone among you will have others depending upon you for many things. The schools have been working with you to help you gain competence. Will you be able to meet the demands made upon you? GEORGE R. AUSTIN r ROBERT L. JEFFERY BARBARA CROWE
