To the Class of 1963— To have graduated from high school is indeed an achievement, and one of which you may be justly proud. To reach this station in life is proof of one ' s personal persistence and vitality. I ' m sure your many experiences in school have already taught you that anything worthwhile in life is achieved only through great personal endeavor. As you take your place in adult society you will find there is still no substitute for hard work. Today, more than ever before, we need young people who are willing to give their best at all times. GEORGE R. AUSTIN Superintendent As the time draws near for the completion of your public school education, we hope you will retain that customary courage which is a charac- teristic of all young people as you meet the prob- lems and decisions of the future. We sometimes hear that young people are discouraged today about the future with the threats of communism, the needs of military service, the cold war and world ten- sions. If you are of this opinion, then you have not learned the lessons from history. There are those among us who remember the fears of people in World War I, the lack of employment and financial collapse which people faced in years 1929-1935, the despair of many families in the World War II period, the Korean conflict and the tensions of the later years in the emergence of nations in little known parts of the world. In spite of all these grave issues, men have met their problems and, little by little, have solved them. Your generation will have a different set of perplexing questions to solve and the courageous among you will help to find the solution. When we get above the clouds we find the stars are still there.
