In this scientific world MATHEMATICS Little wonder we find our study of mathe- matics stepped up as we consider its necessity in our age of scientific phenomena. Purpose- fully we concentrate efforts on the intricacies of radicals, Iogarithms, slide rules, factoring, permutations, ratio, proportion, and logic. Besides providing us with tools for compu- tation, this course teaches us orderly and logical thinking. We gain a basic foundation required in a variety of careers or a general knowledge for practical use. SCIENCE Biology, physics, and chemistry are the basic science courses at Appleton High School. We delve deeply into the miracles and para- doxes discussed and pondered by men for centuries. of communication and expression ENGLISH Every student regardless of his interests or endeavors has a vital need for a command of written and spoken English. He must also be capable of reading intelligently whether for pleasure or knowledge. By review and drill of English grammar, a special emphasis on composition, and a study of American, English, and world literature, a student of English pursues a subject he will use all his life-a subject basic to all other fields of knowledge. At A.H.S. the grammar and literature of French, German, Spanish and Latin are studied. We also become well acquainted with the geog- raphy, history and culture of these European countries.
