James Schulze 1 Beverly Rendell 55 , r fl . . 'ii 124... Sue Wilkinson Honors AMERICAN LEGION ATHLETIC AWARD The winner ol this year's American Legion Athletic Award was Jim Schulze. The honor is given to the outstanding senior athlete by the Johnston-Blessman Post Number 38. Jim was a fine all-around athlete. On the gridiron, his poise and quarterbacking skill won him all-conference and all-state honors. His basketball generalship led to all-conference and all-area laurels. As a trackman, he was known lor his speed and pole-vaulting. Jim captained all three sports in his senior year. A. A. U. W. SCHOLARSHIP This year the American Association ol University Women Scholarship was given to Beverly Rendall. The scholar- ship ol Si 50 is annually awarded to a worthy senior girl who plans to attend Lawrence College. JAYCETTE SCHOLARSHIP The Junior Chamber of Comerce Auxiliary annually awards a S900 scholarship to a senior girl entering a school of nursing in the state of Wisconsin. Margie Jochman was chosen lor this year's Jaycette Schol- arship. Margie Jochman ELKS YOUTH LEADERSHIP Seniors Sue Wilkinson and James Wink were honored as the winners of the Elks Youth Leadership ' award. Primary eligibility was decided by a laculty committee. Students then Filed applications with reports based on their leadership and service ac- complishments in school, church and civic activities. A S50 award was presented to each of these leaders by the Elks Lodge. James Wink

VETERANS OF FOREIGN WARS The Harvey Pierre Post No. 2775 of the Veterans of Foreign Wars honored Ramona Trinrud with its annual fellowship. A S50 savings bond and an engraved certificate were awarded in recog- nition of Ramona's good citizenship, sense of responsibility, scholar- ship, Fine character and extra curricular participation ELKS CITIZENSHIP AWARD Thomas Flanagan The Ellcs Lodge of Appleton annually sponsors a contest open to high school seniors. A com- prehensive test on the U. S. con- stitution and government is the basis ol competition. Thomas Flan- agan, who attained the highest score, received a S100 award and, consequently, enters state com- petition lor the S400 prize. G. I. A. A. AWARD Harlene Uecker A S100 award is given to a senior girl who has shown interest and ability in the Fields of health or physical education and plans to further her education in one ol these Fields. Harlene Ueclcer was chosen by the high school scholarship committee to receive the physical education scholarship donated by the Girls' lntramural Athletic Association. MARX AWARDS Every year Marx Jewelers talces pride in presenting gold watches to the boy and girl who are outstanding leaders in intramural sports. Not only do these students show leadership and Fine sportsmanship but they also help with the Ubaclcstageu worlc ol organized intramural sports. SPECTOR AWARD The outstanding sophomore of 1957 was John Scribner. ln recognition of his scholastic achieve- ments and leadership potentialities, John was awarded the Spector Trophy. A promising future is in store for John who has been creatively active in music, forensics, and ath- letics in school as well as in many other community activities. John Scribner STATE ORATORICAL CHAMPION Daril Riley has distinguished himself in the Field of oratory by winning First place in the state American Legion Oratorical Contest held March 6 at LaCrosse. His winning oration was entitled The Constitution for all Ameri- cans. l-laving placed First in local, regional, district and state com- petition, Daril was qualified to compete in the ninth district contest at Fairbault, Minnesota against winners from Minnesota, North Dalcota, and South Dalcota. Daril Riley ELKS MOST VALUABLE STUDENTS Considered worthy of the Ellcs' Most Valuable Student award were Betsy Davis and David Ehllce, seniors of the 1957 class. A committee of faculty members nominated eligible students, and the Ellcs Lodge made the Final selection. ln addition to the honor, Betsy and Dave received Fifty dollars each from H.
