Stout State x I HOME ECONOMICS The home economics department of- fers interesting subjects to aid in the forl mation of tomorrow's homemakers. All students are taught the development of good taste and may pursue interests in either cooking or sewing. A one-year course is also offered to senior boys in foods, clothing, finances, and the duties of a host. COMMERCIAL The commercial department gives students interested in the business world excellent opportunities to learn the procedures of office work. Book- keeping, typewriting, shorthand, filing, and operating office machinery make up the outstanding program of this de- partment. MATHEMATICS Mathematics is designed to show stu- dents the value of quick and thorough reasoning and to acquaint them with many basic fundamentals. An introduc- tion to mathematics is essential for col- lege preparation. Further study is es- pecially beneficial to students wishing to pursue such fields as engineering. CAFETERIA In the cafeteria, students choose fooci from the varied assortment prepared by the head chef, Mrs. Mabel Schwartz. With the help of Mrs. Beatrice Hansen and several students, Mrs. Schwartz is able to furnish a nutritious lunch pro- gram tor as many as three hundred and fifty students.

A speech course is offered in the senior year to all who are interested, and any student may participate in drarnatics, debate, oratory, declamation or ex- temporaneous speaking. An art course is offered for the artistically inclined. Band, orchestra, and chorus are available for those whose talents lie in music. HEALTH In the well-rounded program of the physical edu- cation department, students are taught the values of good health and good sportsmanship. From the wide variety of activities, they learn not only the importance of their physical welfare but skills in many sports as well.
