All juniors are required to take American history. Through this course they learn about their own country's government, cus- toms and ways. Further courses are offered in world geography, economics, world history, psychology, and sociology. This year the social science department presented a new opportunity to the students in offering a five- day trip to Washington D.C. This educational ex- cursion toolc place during the Christmas holidays. LANGUAGES Languages, among the elective subjects in our school, are chosen by many students preparing for college. A student may prepare for a career in many and varied fields. Courses in auto mechanics, mechanical drawing, printing, cabinet making and iron work provide valuable experiences and oppor- tunities for students to develop special aptitudes and interests. SCIENCE In this atomic age, the need for understanding the various fields of science is of utmost importance to students. Through the science department this need is fulfilled. In the sophomore year students are in- troduced to science through biology, a required subject. This course gives students a better under- standing of plants, animals, and man and introduces them to the interesting world of science. This in- terest often leads to further study in chemistry, con- cerned with the chemical changes of matter, and physics, the study of the physical changes of matter. A speech course is offered in the senior year to all who are interested, and any student may participate in drarnatics, debate, oratory, declamation or ex- temporaneous speaking. An art course is offered for the artistically inclined. Band, orchestra, and chorus are available for those whose talents lie in music. HEALTH In the well-rounded program of the physical edu- cation department, students are taught the values of good health and good sportsmanship. From the wide variety of activities, they learn not only the importance of their physical welfare but skills in many sports as well.
