Bern- hardt of Lenoir, North Carolina, in sincere appreciation for their invaluable service to the Appalachian State Teachers Col- lege and to the cause of higher education in North Carolina. HON. W. C. NEWLAND In 90 . Hon. W. C. Newland introduced the hill in the Legislature of North Carolina creating the Appalachian Train- ing School which has developed through due processes into the Appalachian State Teachers College. As chairman of the Board of Trustees through the years of most rapid development he has given unstintingly of his time and wisdom. MR. J. M. BERNHARDT Mr. J. M. Bernhardt, as a member of the original Board of Trustees and as Chairman of the Executive Committee dur- ing the phenomenal growing period of the college has given unsparingly of his judgment and business experience.
