AHS Takes Fourth State AA Crown The Blue Devils of Appalachian took their fourth consecutive Western AA title this season by storming through nine regular season games without a loss and then romping over Hilde- bran and Murphy in the playoffs. At the season's end the Devils were rated number 1 inthe state in class AA. After three early season victories by big margins, the Devils really showed signs of things to come when they shellacked arch-rival West Wilkes bythescore of 40-6. Taylors- ville, one of the major powers in class AAA, proved to be the sternest test to the Blue Devils all year. Appalachian rose to the occasion, however, and took a 25-7 decision. The Devils ran up their largest margin in several years when they downed Beaver Creek 53-0 in the regular season finale. In the District playoffs, Appalachian bombed Hildebran 46-14 and then ventured to Canton to take on the Murphy Bulldogs for the fourth year ina row. In what was predicted to be a tight game, the Devils turned it into a thorough rout and went on to win by the deci- sive margin of 39-7. 30
