Because of his genuine interest in building Appalachian High School, and because he has such a profound influence on the lives of the people he comes in contact with by living by the Golden Rule, we, the senior class of 1957, dedicate Volume II of the Laurel to Coach Leroy Rogers. Thanks, Coach, for guiding our boys the many years you did in basketball. You certainly ended your coaching career a winner. We shall always remember you best for your Sportsman's Prayer. Dear Lord, in the battle that goes on through life, | ask but a field that is fair, A chance that is equal with all in the strife, A courage to strive and to dare. And if | should win let it be by the code, With my faith and my honor held high. And if | should lose let me stand by the road, And cheer as the winners go by.
