Led again by Coach Jim Riggs and Coach Jackie Ray Robinette, the Mighty Bulldogs not only brought home the LPD trophies, but for the first time in the history of AHS, they won the Class A State Championship. Last year it was pre¬ dicted by the fans of the Mighty Bulldogs that we would have a State team, and sure enough, the Mighty Bulldogs rolled on for this trophy. Appalachia remained undefeated throughout the entire season; and when it came to the championship games, there was no stop¬ ping the Mighty ’Dogs’, starting with Castlewood, 46-0; Chil- howie, 42-0; and finally the last game of the season, Madison, 24-0. Throughout the championship games there were only eight points scored against the TOUGH Bulldog defense. The Seniors of 1972 had a very busy and intriguing year at A.H.S. In September after the election of officers, the class started making plans for a Senior trip. Money¬ making projects were planned. Some of these projects were bake sales, car washes, selling Christ¬ mas and humorous cards, candy, zodiac pens, luv mums, key chains, a Hee Haw show, a play, and having a Christmas Ball. After raising the needed sum to take their trip, the Seniors traveled to the Biltmore Es¬ tates in Asheville, North Carolina, and on to Knoxville, Tennessee, to see the GREAT Elvis Presley in concert.
