Richmond was born in Appala¬ chia, Virginia, and he lived in the house opposite The Riggs Stadium until he was eleven years of age. At this young age, he moved to Jonesville, Virginia, where he graduated from Jonesville High School. He received his B.A. Degree from Duke Uni¬ versity in 1937; he has some graduate work from Columbia University, Peabody College and the University of Virginia. Mr. Richmond has worked for the better¬ ment of the Virginia school systems since 1927 when he became the principal of St. Paul High School. Since that time, he has held numerous, high-ranking positions which have enabled him to competently fill his seat as Superintendent of the Wise County Schools. 3 12 ADMINISTRATION Mrs. Crawley -- Teachers ' Aid Mr. C. It is a state and National affiliated organization. Its motto is School and Community Growing Together,” Some of the projects for this year have been: presenting Thanksgiving and Christmas programs, preparing food baskets at Thanksgiving, Homecoming float, assigning bul¬ letin boards, selling popcorn at ballgames, collecting the Christ- mas Cheer Fund and giving a school Christmas party. It has proved of great importance to the school by patroling the halls, working at football and basketball games and riding shotgun” on the buses. Bishop, Wells The 1970-71 basketball season was one of the most successful in the history of the sport at Appalachia High School. The Bulldogs, noted for their balanced scoring and overall team play, finished second in the district standings and were consistently ranked among the top ten teams in Southwest Virginia. The team continued to improve as the season neared an end, and captured the runner-up spot in the Wise County tournament. Then, to culminate an already fine season, Appalachia won the Lonesome Pine Dis¬ trict Tournament.
