JUST STAPFISH ON THE BEACH Yesterday, when I got homefrom school, my mother asked me to go to-the store for her. All I could think of was how much I didn't want to go. I wanted to go over to a friend's house. I tried to get out of going. No use. I dropped my hooks on the tahle, wicked un my keys and reached for 'ine list. It was chilly out, and she were a red sweater that had seen a few too many washings. . Herhair was tied in a hun at the hack of' her head. WA few of' the strands of her white hair had escaped and hmg don-m loosely across her face. She had just been to the market, for she was pulling a two wheeled wire cart that contained a hog of groceries. As I passed, I looked into her eyes. They, were sad. Dulled with fa.tiygue and loneliness. I wanted to stop and pick her up. To tell her I loved her, and she was heautif'ul and take her anywhere she was going. But I cftdhft. '
