MR. JUMP MR. ZEDAKER Csjtuclents: - - l am speaking in behalf of the Board of Education, teachers and all concerned. Here in Antwerp we are trying to make the American dream a reality, Educational opportunities for every :hild up to the limits of his talent and his capacity to use them. The citizens of this community have, by their support, made the first part of this dream possible as exemplified by our new elementary building. The other part of this dream is up to thc parents, teachers and you. Parents and teachers can encourage, guide and inspire while you master the necessary assignments r i a preparation for your future problems. Today, much precious talent is going to waste because only about one fourth of the top students go to college. We cannot afford to lose this much-needed manpower as the problems of the family, community, business, government and science have grown relentlessly more complex. The progress of this country as a dynamic and free society has been because we have provided more educational opportunities for our people than any other country. Higher education has been one of the main bulwarks of our national life. We can ren' in strong only if we have educated manpower sufficient to meet the demands of a ation still growing, both in quality and in size. Today we are in an uncomfortable position. We have shortage s of educated man- power in education itself, in medicine, science, engineering, business, ministry, social welfare and other fields vital to this nation's well-being. Our colleges and universities are the main instruments for supplying this necessary educated man- power. lt is my hope that the seven hundred plus students of the Antwerp School, after com- pleting their course here, if possible and advisable, continue on to a higher plane. oy. 2 ffm: ER- ... .M . , -............. ...
