SUPERINTENDENT'S MESSAGE Education has a two-fold purpose - to develop a social order whose roots are deep in the fundamental principles of a democratic social order and to develop individuals to maintain and serve in that social Order. Much has been said and written in the last few months concerning the American system of education. These utterances must be disturbing to the youth of today when they begin to evaluate the educational process by which subject matter becomes a part of them. As the American way of life is best for society, so does the American system of education meet one's needs in becoming a part of that so- ciety. Regardless ofthe excellence of our way of life and the efficien- cy of our educational system, one dominate fact stands out in our day: 'Men have learned to destroy far more successfully than they have learned to live together. True we must place greater emphasis on science and mathematics with the handmaiden of civilization - the humanities. The great laws of science have no value if men cannot live together not understand one another. 'Men cannot live by bread alone. The Antlers Public Schools offer to the community an adequate pro- gram of science, mathematics, history, business, homemaking, agri- culture, language, fine arts, and social subjects. The value of these subjects is not in their offering but in their reception of these subjects by the pupils and parents of the community as a tool for learning and understanding.
