Z -nl History is a relentless master. Time piles up while Antioch High changes as sophomores grow up and become seniors. ln the following pages the 1960 PANTHER staff has tried to capture these historical events with pictures and copy. We have chosen the theme Our school - A part of our community, to pay tribute to some of the as- pects of our community that make our school what it is. A progressive agricultural and industrial area, our community of- fers its citizens - young and old - pleasant weather, a thousand miles of water ways, neat homes, many churches, a variety of iobs, and many modern schools. We are, therefore, both hum- ble and appreciative of the op- portunities provided for us by our parents and community - opportunities that those before us did not have. With the knowledge of our community's accomplishments in mind, we should remember to do all in our power to make the future of Antioch even greater than her past.

DEDICA TION MISS MARY O'CONNELL We of the class of 1960 proudly dedicate this PANTHER yearbook to MISS MARY O'CONNEl.L, our teacher, advisor, and friend, who encouraged us to fulfill our highest potentialities although it meant sacrifice of her time and effort. In 1959 MlSS O'CONNELL, formerly vocal music instructor at the high school, was appointed full-time music supervisor of the Antioch Unified School District. She continued her interest in our musical welfare and was instrumental in our being chosen as one of 34 out of 400 schools to represent California in the chorus at the Winter Olympics held in Squaw Valley. For her firm hand and sympathetic heart . . . for her encouragement when we faltered . . . for her ioy in our success . . . for her understanding of our problems . . . and for her devotion to our school-for these things do we express our gratitude. 1 These sentiments, so aptly expressed, were inscribed by Larry Dorsey, who be- cause he boarded during the last year at Miss O'Connell's home, knows her best perhaps of any member of the class of 1960.
