Jim, Cdlm.o.L- Moving sTeadily on wiTh planned precision, The common wheel of educaTion com- pleTes iTs c cle aT The closing of our Senior year. Many of us will seek higher levels of learning, while oThers will slip ouT inTo The world armed wiTh The available knowledge for molding Their lives. As The old wheel begins iTs slow Turning, The cog adiacenT To The Top symbolizes our Freshman year. The eagerness To ioin high school life is felT as The wheel begins The fresh sTarT of iTs rolling rouTe. Being iniTiaTed inTo The social background, we hesi- TanTly Thronged To The Freshman RecepTion, ploTTed by our cordial elders. Much of our pride was Thrown aside when we humbly nosed peanuTs across The gym floor, on hands and knees, amid The shouTs OT specTaTors. Thus we aTTained our liTTle niche in high school and were hailed as equals. Now we sTarTed The inTroducTion To more inTri- cafe forms oT learning such as probing algebra and penning an essay. Moving downward, we grasped our scholasTic acTiviTies wiTh a more sfeady hold in The Sophomore year. PasT was The proud newness of being Freshmen: presenT was The sense of belonging wiTh The resT of The crowd. A more definiTe plan of our courses became clearer. Some sfumbled along TypewriTer keyboards while oThers pondered over Shakespeare pages. During January we negoTiaTed on plans for our Sophomore Hop. The ValenTine Theme was chosen and many spenT afTer-school hours cuTTing ouT red hearTs. Willingly we Tuned up The iuke-box and had a sociable Time drinking cokes and dancing. Swinging upward inTo our Junior year, we approached The halfway mark wiTh spon- Taneous enThusiasm. Soon afTer ChrisTmas we received The TradiTional class rings. ln- spired wiTh ideas for The Junior Prom, we came Through wiTh a ManhaTTan Terrace Theme. Evenings backsTage in The gym were spenf in Transforming plain cardboard inTo hundreds of gliTTering sTars, Top-haTs, whiTe gloves, and a ManhaTTan Skyline-aT- Dusk. Whom To selecT for our musical aTmosphere offered no liTTle argumenf buT The lull aTTer The sTorm presenTed Walf Pilgrim. A more serious chord was sTruck when Uncle Sam reached inTo our group Taking some of our boys for Training in warfare. Many of Them sTudied aT nighT school To obTain The needed crediTs To graduaTe wiTh The Senior class. Reaching The Top of The wheel, we felT The pride of compleTed work leTT and The subsiding of This roTaTion drawing nearer. The cold weaTher broughT The ChrisTmas holi- days and we began planning for our Ball. Enlivened wiTh The age-old buT never Tiring Theme, we chose Chrisfmas. Once again The backsTage was converTed inTo a painTer's paradise, wiTh jars of gaudy liquids, waTer, brushes, and nails sTrewn across The floor: mural sTrips of buTcher paper were Tacked on The walls. From This conglomeraTion, under The hands of amaTeur buT modern-minded arTisTs, developed The finished producT in The form of sophisTicaTed SanTa Clauses, dressed in magenTa suiTs, dashing across char- Treuse backgrounds. and driving purple reindeer. Gay colored bells were hung along The raffers. The eTfecT: colorful. The chord's Tone deepened as more visibly The eTfecTs of war were noTiced in The absence of many of our boys and The presence of parT- Time jobs for some of The remaining. V Bringing us To The compleTion of The cycle are four memorable years. preparing us for The sfep off from The wheel. AfTer our Dress-Up Day, affer our DiTch Day, afTer our BanqueT, and afTer our gowns have been acked away for nexT year's class, we'll recall These carefree days, Tomorrow or years Eom Tomorrow, wiTh a hinT of nosTalgia.
