royo ecg jlte .Senior 6 and My name is Sabastian Pegler. I'm the star reporter on the Daily Chronicle Scandal Sheet. You'd be surprised at some of the interesting things that can happen on a day's assignment! Some of the people I meet are really---. Hey, wait! I just had a wonderful ideal Why don't you come with me on one of my assignments to the different parts of the States to interview people in all walks of life? As I stop at the editor's desk to pick up some cash to help me along the way, I write the boss a note, telling him to expect me back in about two months. The editor doesn't mind my telling him these things because he's really a good fellow. Yes, that Leo Bogaerts surely is a top notch editor. And you should see the efficient and cute secretary he has. Wow! She's the former Nancy Cunningham, who is now married to the big auto racing tycoon, Tom Elwood. The last time I heard, they had two little mldgets. David Petty is financing Tom with the wealth he has saved all through his life. Well, now I'm off to the airport to catch a super jet across the country to Hollywood. Hey, taxi, I yell as I step from the building into the busy street. All of a sudden I hear brakes squeal and see a taxi come to a sudden halt. No wonder, it's that hot rod taxi cab driver, Nancy Knock em over dead on the first try Vanc. In a few breath-taking minutes, she lands me surprisingly enough in one piece at the airport. Once here, I check my bags with the porter, Andy Anderson, and then go into the terminal to get my ticket. Why, there's Marilyn Gliniecki, the ticket seller. I soon Ieam that she is happily married to Fred Stahmer, who is employer with Osmond EL Son in Jim's Jovial Junk Joint. While waiting for the plane I buy a few magazinesi the most famous one being Baethke's Billard Championship Guide. It is written by that world famous I billard champ, Eugene Baethke. Say--look! lsn't that Janet Bunkelman over there? She must be in town on the tour, as she is working in the Barnum-Bailey Circus as a professional tight rope walker. She trills thousands every season by the daring antics that she performs. Now the plane is coming up the runway. As I step inside, I recognize the stewardess as an old friend of mine, Marlene Wertz. She graduated from the same air-line school with Charlene Powles, who is now on the route between New York and Japan. She shows me to my seat, and I settle back and relax. I notice no one of any particular interest, so I ----- for goodness sakes, there are Mr. and Mrs. Daniel Chase. They must be going on their honeymoon, as I read in the paper that they were recently married. Mrs. Chase is the former Mary Kisel. Before her marriage Mary was employed as hostess in Carney's Recreation Center located in that thriving metropolis, Antioch, Illinois. In exchanging a few words with the newlyweds I learn many new things of interest. Mike Hruby, Bob I-Iernquist, and Bill Parmer have just been made professors in Vassar College. I hear that they like their jobs so well that they are convincing a few of their friends, Bill Dekant and Bill Deering, that teaching isn't such a bad profession after all. Among other achievements, they have just found the secret formula for Itchy Flea Powder. That project should certainly scratch up the money! As I settle back in my seat, I happen to glance over a newspaper article reading as follows: Bock to run for President! Yes, That's the Vice -President of the U. S.Ag he'll make a good presidental candidate. Speaking of politics, I just heard that Phyllis Cys was elected Senator of Illinois. Another news item is about an old friend of mine, Dolores Jameson. She hasn't been in this country for many years now, as she is the most famous head huntress of Africa. Nancy Sheehan is her partner, and I hear that hunting has been very good this year. Here we are at our first stop. Hollywood certainly looks good! After leaving the plane, I walk down the busy streets and take in the scenery. Say, just look at that! There is the famous HLMS Broadcasting Station. It is owned by that enthusiastic quartet comprised of Jeanne Hughes, Carol Loftus, Karen Martin, and Loraine Steinel. They now have their own T. V. show, also. There's another interesting item! The famous night club, The Yellow Bonnet, is located not too far from here, so 1et's go over to see what we can find. Here comes the hostess to greet us. She is the former Sylvia Beelow, who is now happily married and the mother of four children. Now I have an opportunity to meet the owner and his charming wife. Pete Matteoni and Mrs. Matteoni the former Margie Haling, are the happy proprietors. Marge decorated the beautiful club, since she was a professional interior decorator before her marriage. This week the name band playing there is Cervenka's City Slickers, which is run by Joanle Cervenka. Ah, there are some other acquaintances of ours ---- Geraldine Paglusch and Dolores Braeckman, who work in ine club as waitresses. Sitting over at a secluded table in the corner, we see the National Shorthand Speed Writing Association champion, Mary Fields. Mary is also married and has a baby daughter. Over in the center of the club is Gloria Lasco. After interviewing her, I find out that she owns the biggest ranch in the States, the Bar-B-Q horse ranch out in Horsefly, Texas. I gather all my notes on the interviews and leave the club. My next stop will be Pennsylvania. After a fast and enjoyable ride to the airport, I hop aboard the next plane for Pennsylvania. As I thumb through some magazines, I see that Jack Armstrong, the all-American boy, is doing wonders making jewelry from Rice Krispies. I also see that those basketball wonders of the old alma mater- Boake Baird, Bob Weber, Bob Floyd, Bruce Stahmer, and Jerry Quilty- are now the star players on the Globetrotters. They will play in Hawaii next week and are billed to play in New York tonight. After traveling for quite some time, I leave the plane upon reaching Philadelphia and take a tour around town. Humm, I see by the billboard advertising that Bill Bachman, Jack Nelson, Jack Heillgenthal, and Delmar Adams now play professional football for Penn State. They're really good too! As the cab whizzes by the large buildings, I can see two men busily washing windows on the fourth floor of a skyscraper. My, that Lauris Burdick and Gordon Heuer are ambitious. As a sideline, they drive in the Philadelphia 5o0 races. After a few days, I move on to New York where I go to see a stage play. On a trip backstage after the play I see Judy Gaston, who is the star's beautician, and Chris Kopecky, who travels with the cast as secretary. On passing the wardrobe department I see Barbara Forbrlch, who designs the stars' gowns. I just got a special report from the home office to come back immediately to cover one of the biggest weddings our town has ever had. Miss Pat Miller is getting married! I catch the first plane home and make plans to continue my little expedition a little later. When I arrive back home, I find that Joyce Kiehl is going to be maid of honor at Miss Miller's wedding, with Gwyn Pierce and Doris Peterson as the bridesmaids. Many of Pat's classmates are coming back to attend the big affair. Mr. and Mrs. Wayne Bailey are coming all the way from Paris. Mrs. Bailey, the former Mary Ann Nielsen, is the Dean of Music in the Paris Conservatory, while Wayne is the head of a very profitable tooth pick factory. Mary Lou Gorman, who is now working in Milwaukee for the Case Shoe Factory fowned by Len and Audrey Casey, is also arriving for the big day. Sue Forgette is coming home with Mary Lou, as Sue also lives in Milwaukee and is married to an engineer. She is busily engaged in the task of raising her baseball team of nine boys. Fred Zeien and Bill Wilson are attending college for their veterinarian degrees, but they will manage to get home to joln in the celebration. Bob Seekatz, the owner of the largest roller skating rink in America, will donate the rink so that Pat may have her reception there. Mesdames Grace Rendall and Uldine Andersen have been working there as skating instructors while they wait for their .husbands to return home from service at sea. The girls will attend the wedding along with the rest. Well, the bride is just about ready to start down the aisle, so I have to hurry over to get some pictures and a first-hand coverage. The crowd here is tremendous! This certainly is something to see! Since I now have my job cut out for me for the next few days, I'll have to leave you now--on this day in the future--to retum you back to the present. Hope you had fun on our journey--it's been fun having you along. 21
