He graduated from Walcita High School, in Wakita, Oklahoma, in 1984. In 1986, he enlisted in the Navy. Following graduation from Iournalism 'A' school, he served tours at the Navy Broadcasting Service Detachment in Keflavik, Iceland, and as the Independent Duty Iournalist onboard USS Portland CLSD 373. He was awarded a fleet input NROTC scholarship in 1988 and transferred to the University of Oklahoma. Commissioned in 1991, LCDR Meuser reported to USS O'Brien CDD 9751 in April 1992. His tour included duties as Electrical Officer, Main Propulsion Assistant and Strike Oflicer. ln September, 1995, he reported for duty at Afloat Planning Systems, Pacific. At APSPAC, he served as theOfficer-in-Chargeof LCDR Carl W Meuser Team Two, which deployed as part of the staff of 1 a 1 . Commander, Cruiser- Destroyer Group One, embarked on USS Constellation QCV 641. ln November 1998, he reported to USS Port Royal CCG 731 for duty as Weapons Officer and Combat Systems Officer. He reported to USS Antietam CCG 545 in May 2003, where he serves as Executive Officer. LCDR Meuser earned a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from the University of Oklahoma in 1991 and a Master of Arts in National Security and Strategic Studies from the Naval War College in 2002. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy in May of 1989 earning a Bachelor of Science degree in General Science. In Ianuary 1990 LCDR Byrne reported to USS F oxf CG-335 where he served as Anti-Submarine Warfare Officer and First Lieutenant until April 1993. While assigned to Fox, LCDR Byrne completed a Western Pacific Deployment in support of Operation Desert Storm. LCDR Byrne's personal decorations include the Meritorious Service Medal, the Navy Commendation Medal and the Navy Achievement Medal C2 awardsj.
