DUBAI, UniTED ARAB EMIRATES Our first real stop in the gulf for liberty was Dubai, UAE. Dubai is the second largest emirate and the acknowledged commercial center in the UAE. It has developed rapidly since its independence with the massive in- vestment of its considerable oil revenues, resulting in modern roads, shopping cen- ters, hospitals, and hotels. Because the UAE is an Islamic country, the skylines of the cities and villages are dotted ; with numerous and beautiful mosques. Prayer call can be heard five times a day. ABU DHABI UniTED ARAB EMIRATES Abu Dhabi is a study in contrast between traditional Arab values and western in- fluences, it is the largest and wealthiest of the seven states which comprise the UAE, and is the capital city and home to the President of the UAE. Abu Dhabi, which means Land of the Gazelle, claims to have the highest per capita income in the world, all from its oil revenues.
