Girls' softball joins spring sporls line-up A new addition to Anthony Wayne athlet- ics this year was a girls' softball team. Under the coaching of Laurie McVicker, the girls compiled a 2-9 record, with both wins against Maumee. Several girls were awarded league honors. Named first team N.L.L. was Kim Ehret with Diane Kistner on second team. Receiving Honorable Mentions were Karen Mayer, Irene Martinez, Annette Moss, Lee Notestine, Kim Spooner, and Angie Kennedy. With this year's experience under their belt and only two seniors leaving the team, this new spring sport should be getting bet- ter. Kim Ehret was high scorer C104 pointsj and top rebounder. Kim Ehret and Missy Meeker were named to the N .L.L. first team and Debbie Bierbaum received an hon- orable mention. The Varsity was one of 27 teams which participated in the first state wide tournament for girls, The Toledo Athletic League Girls High School Basketball Invitational Tourna- ment. They played Rogers and were defeated by a score of 41-31. The junior Varsity finished with a record of five wins and six losses. Exchange student Stella Munoz from Colombia played on the JV team. Although their season record of three wins and four losses was not impressive, they totaled 111 points in the league meet beating their nearest competitor, Maumee, by 1.5 points. The Most Improved Player was Mary Dick. Missy Meeker took the Most Valuable honors. A fourth year award went to Ann Yonkee while Cathy Clark, Mary' Dick, and Missy Meeker received third year awards. The Outstanding Participant at the Napolean Gold Medal Relays was Missy Meeker. In the Predistrict meet, Missy took first place in the high jump with a height of -5'6 . This qualified her for the Northwest District meet where she also placed first with a jump of 5'7 . The first State Girls' Track meet was held in Ohio Stadium in Columbus. Missy took first place in the high jump with a jump of 5'4 , This made her eligible to compete in the National meet in New York state. Girls' Track 87
