The assembly was open to all juniors and seniors and those sophomores who had tickets. Mr. Jennings was Master of Ceremonies. Mrs. Bradley presented awards to Peggy Fisher and Sally Witzler in recognition of their four years of service as student librari- ans. Barb Sido won the Latin award for two years of work and Miss Kuney announced Brenda Hughes and Kim Richards outstand- ing Latin club members. Jana Boyer received the Spanish award for the fourth year level from Mrs. Cox. Tammi Strickland won the Crisco award from the Home Ec department. The V.F.W. sponsored Voice of Democ- racy essay contest was won by Rich Thayer. His essay was written on the subject of My Responsibility as a Citizen. Rich read his essay at the Memorial Day ceremony in Watewille. Mr. Frusher from the V.F.W. presented the award. The American Legion sponsored the Americanisrn test for sophomores, juniors, and seniors. The winners were sophomores Barb Sido and Bob Desko, juniors Kelly Cichy and Keith Gaspar, and seniors Pat Hill and Dave Plassman. Recognifions 199

,s 5-41 -if Oulslanding participants named in band and DECA Once again Anthony Wayne had several students participating in Buckeye Girls' State at Capitol University, Columbus, and Buck- eye Boys' State at Ohio University in Athens, The girls representing Whitehouse were Kelly Cichy and Tina Cirino, from Water- ville, Val Sido and Amy Albaugh, and Becky Plymale from Monclova. Boys' State repre- sentatives from Whitehouse were Rick Mic- hales and Dean Matson, and from Waterville, Matthew Tonjes and jay Agee. Mr. Jennings presented the I Dare You awards to Kathie Brahaney and Jim Robin- son. This award is a book which dares one to achieve their goals. The recipients are cho- sen by faculty recommendations of their char- acter and leadership. The DECA chapter of Anthony Wayne named Deb Boggs as its outstanding student. Also, at this time, advisor Mr. Kelly and Gary Wiesenberger presented to Mr. Jennings and the school the trophy won in District compe- tition. It was placed in the showcase in the commons. The Outstanding Senior bandsman was trombone player Les Graham.
