nu Director David C. McGuire has endeared himself to the hearts of the shipmates as he has lead the music department forward to great achievements in one of its most outstanding voyages. At the SKL Music Festival at Medicine Lodge and at the District Music Festival at Wichita the various individuals and groups brought honor to themselves, their director, and Anthony High School, with their high ratings. The cornet trio, boys’ quartet, and girls’sextet were rated “highly superior, which entitled them to go to the State Music Festival at Emporia. The mixed chorus also took “highly superior’’ ratings. The popularity of the soul - expressive medium of music is shown by the fact that one- half of all the Pirates participated in one or more of the musical organizations pictured on the following pages.
