The biggest attraction was the pizza eating contest which proved what the Freshmen were worthy of. The indoor games were even more exciting. There were the three-legged race, the volkswagon race, the egg toss, along with many other events. The surprise of the day left the Freshmen with 34 points. Seniors with 33, Sophomores 32, and the Junior class with 23 points. (Photo Idents) 1. Mrs. Moser and Mrs. Pelfry are amazed at Johnny’s eating capacity. 2. Lori Cullison dumps the marbles. 3. This years theme was “Santa Claus is Coming to Town.” Everyone received gifta from Santa and refreshments from Santa’s helpers. The Sophomores’ chuck wagon was plentiful. M. Ruiz and Edna Babb seemed to enjoy themselves while working in the chuck wagon. Western Days The week of February 7-11, became the Sophomores’ biggest money making event of the year. The “Chuck Wagon” was supported by many hungry cowboys who kept the store open. This years’ games were held outside during 6th period. Such games as tug-of-war, three legged race, barrel roping, to name a few, highlighted the day having the Seniors win with 20 points. The Sophomores edged the trail with 17 points. The Freshmen creeped along for third place, while the Juniors placed last. 10 Western Days P. Crowley and C. Crenshaw catch their breath after the amoeba race. Transforming the cafeteria into a large city night scene took some doing, but with the help of Mrs. G. Stewart and Mrs. J. Seriale it all took place. Tables were set on sidewalks with outdoor street lamps set at each corner highlighting the mood “A Night On the Town”. The Rhapsody band featuring R. Madsen and last years graduate K. Baughman entertained the well attended event Prom King Jesus Quintana and Queen Juana Federico. Dressed fit to the “T” are K. Seymour and T. Wheeler. R. Med-Start had its beginnings at the University of Arizona when a group of concerned medical students began to tackle the problem of encouraging high school students in rural Arizona to pursue health careers. The ultimate objective is that these students would return to their home towns after obtaining a degree and improve rural health care. This year Med-Start members went to a convention in Tucson. A rock-a-thon was held at Butterfield Park and a trip to the Yuma Hospital was taken later. The last event was the blood pressure screening. 1 2 (Photo Idents.) 1 Bottom Row (left to right): V.
